About the Opportunity:
Amentum is currently recruiting for Principal Fire Protection Engineer to join our Energy business and fire engineering team which has grown significantly recently in as a result of our customer demand.
The department is entering an exciting phase of opportunity by supporting our key client’s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation, and by supporting new small modular reactor developers. Our work is varied, covering New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling, and our capabilities are in demand across the nuclear sector.
This is a hybrid role which can be based be based out of any of our Amentum Energy offices (e.g. Newcastle, Glasgow, Warrington, Gloucester, Bristol, Knutsford etc). We put flexibility at the heart of what we do and we’re happy to consider flexible working patterns.
Key Responsibilities:
Independently plan and execute complex fire protection technical assignments, including the system design of fire detection and alarm system systems, fire fighting and suppression systems to codes/standards/regulations.
Develop, coordinate, and review technical deliverables such as fire system calculations, design inputs, layouts, specifications, design-basis documents, system narratives, cause-and-effect documentation, technical assessments, reports, work plans, and technical correspondence.
Resolve routine and complex technical issues within assigned scopes and identify matters requiring escalation to discipline manager, regulatory-support function, or other designated authority.
Lead assigned technical interfaces with internal stakeholders, clients, key fire safety stakeholders, and other disciplines, including presenting technical issues, explaining assumptions, documenting decisions, and supporting resolution of comments.
Independently plan and execute complex passive fire protection technical assignments, including providing advice on fire compartmentation, fire dampers, fire doors and fire stopping (Desirable not essential).
Education, Experience and Skills:
STEM degree qualified (Desirable not essential)
Membership with a recognised institution (Institution of fire engineers – Desirable not essential)
Fire protection engineering experience, ideally covering most of the key responsibilities listed above
Experience of application and use of relevant prescriptive codes (Use of NFPA codes is desirable but not essential)
