Iceberg DBA/Lakehouse Operations Engineer

Experience: 8+ years in data platform/database operations with strong hands-on experience in Apache Iceberg and/or Hive-based enterprise data lakes.
Key Responsibilities & Skills:
• Own day-to-day Iceberg data layer operations, ensuring reliability, availability, consistency, and performance at TB/PB scale.
• Perform advanced Iceberg table optimization including compaction, small-file mitigation, partitioning, clustering, snapshot expiration, metadata compaction, and orphan-file cleanup.
• Optimize and troubleshoot multi-engine workloads across Spark, Hive, and Impala, including query performance, execution plans, and metadata consistency.
• Manage Iceberg metadata and data lifecycle, including retention, archival, snapshots, time travel, and storage efficiency.
• Strong understanding of data modeling (3NF), Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold), Parquet/ORC, and downstream analytical consumption patterns.
• Provide L2/L3 production and on-call support, including P1/P2 incident resolution, data reconciliation, RCA, and preventive actions.
• Support data security and governance, including data validation, secure access, Ranger policies and RBAC.
• Experience with Spark SQL, Hive, Impala, NiFi, Trino and Cloudera CDP (CDE/CDW); Hive/Teradata-to-Iceberg migrations, Python/Shell, and AWS/Azure preferred.
