About the role

ABOUT US
Rethink Food is a chef-led nonprofit partnering with restaurants to better feed communities. Through strong partnerships with local restaurants and community-based organizations, we work with a responsive, hyperlocal network that provides culturally celebrated, nutritious meals. Since 2017, we've served over 35 million meals and reinvested more than $157 million into local economies.
Our work falls into three core areas:
Building the Network: We connect restaurants, community-based organizations, and food donors to deliver meals where they're needed most.
Setting the Example: Through our Sustainable Community Kitchen, we demonstrate what dignified, community-centered food access can look like.
Advocating for Change: We champion policy and systems change to create a more sustainable, equitable food future for all.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Manager of Social Media and Content creates all of Rethink's video content and manages our social media channels day to day. You'll own each video from concept and shooting through editing and publishing. You'll spend real time in restaurant kitchens, at community partner sites, and at events, capturing the people and partnerships behind our work. Then you'll turn that footage into content that grows our audience and supports our programs, fundraising and advocacy.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Video production
Own Rethink's video content from start to finish: concept, scripting or interview prep, filming, editing, captions, sound and final delivery.
Produce short-form vertical video for Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts on a consistent schedule.
Produce longer-form pieces as needed, such as partner spotlights, program explainers, event recaps, campaign videos, and videos for fundraising events, funder reports and presentations.
Run regular shoots at restaurant partner kitchens, CBO distribution sites and Rethink events, and coordinate timing and logistics with the Programs team and our partners.
Make sure every person on camera has signed a media release before footage is used. Tell stories in ways that respect the dignity and privacy of the people we serve, and follow Rethink's guidelines for sensitive programs such as Medically Tailored Meals.
Keep Rethink's photo and video library organized, tagged and easy for other teams to search.
Maintain Rethink's production equipment and recommend upgrades when needed.
Social media management
Create, schedule and publish content across Rethink's social channels: Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube and X.
Maintain a monthly content calendar that matches our campaigns, programs, policy priorities and key dates.
Manage community engagement: respond to comments and DMs, and route inquiries to the right team.
Track performance using Sprout Social and platform analytics. Report monthly to the VP of Marketing and Communications on growth, engagement and lessons learned.
Create brand-consistent assets that restaurant, CBO and corporate partners can use to promote their work with Rethink.
Stay current on platform trends and formats, and adopt the ones that fit our brand and mission.
Campaigns & cross-team support
Work with the VP of Marketing and Communications to plan content campaigns that build brand awareness and engagement.
Find storytelling opportunities across Rethink's programs, partners and policy work, including the Chef-to-Community Tax Credit.
Support the Development, Programs and Government Relations teams with video and social assets for funder updates, partner communications and advocacy.
Contribute video and visual content to Rethink's emails (Mailchimp) and website (Squarespace).
Support the Marketing and Communications team and other departments as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of experience in video production, content creation or social media management, preferably for a brand, agency, media outlet or mission-driven organization.
A portfolio or reel of video work you shot and edited yourself is required.
Strong skills in shooting and editing video, including framing, lighting, audio capture and pacing for short-form platforms.
Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and CapCut (or similar). After Effects or other motion-graphics experience is a plus.
Working knowledge of Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Sprout Social (or similar), Google Workspace, Mailchimp and Squarespace.
Excellent writing skills for captions, scripts and short-form copy that match the brand.
Comfortable on location in busy kitchens and community sites, and able to put people at ease on camera.
Organized and self-directed, able to manage several shoots and deadlines at once.
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Film/Media or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Commitment to Rethink's mission and values.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE: Commitment to embodying our values of -
Inventiveness: At our core, we are relentlessly curious about solving problems. As our name suggests, we’re a team of creative thinkers, but we’re also hands-on doers, challenging norms with humility to find practical solutions that can create lasting change.
Vulnerability: Guided by an “always be better” mindset, we are a team that intentionally reflects on what we are doing well and where we need to improve. We hold ourselves and each other accountable, every day. No blame, no shame — we just want to be sure we’re always doing the right thing.
