About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
We are inviting applications for a six-month research internship on a project at the interface of statistical physics, machine learning, and complex systems.
Research Area
Statistical Physics of Learning Machines
The project will explore how ideas from statistical mechanics, dynamical systems, and high-dimensional systems can be used to understand learning machines. Possible directions include learning dynamics, loss landscapes, generalization, criticality, and collective behavior in neural networks and related models.
The emphasis will be on developing a theoretical and computational understanding of learning systems using concepts from physics.
Eligibility
Only candidates with an M.Sc. in Physics are eligible to apply.
Applicants should have a strong interest in theoretical and computational research. Prior exposure to statistical mechanics, nonlinear dynamics, complex systems, or machine learning would be useful.
Desirable skills
Statistical mechanics
Linear algebra and probability
Python
Numerical simulations
Neural networks / machine learning
Scientific computing
Prior experience in machine learning is desirable but not essential. A strong foundation in physics and willingness to learn are more important.
Internship
Duration: Six months
Stipend: ₹15,000 per month
The selected intern will work on an active research problem and gain experience in analytical modelling, numerical simulations, scientific literature, and research-level machine learning.
The internship would be particularly suitable for candidates considering a future PhD in statistical physics, complex systems, computational physics, or theoretical machine learning.
Application
Interested candidates may apply through the LinkedIn job posting and include:
