Attorney and Other Legal Professionals (AI Training)
Latitude is looking for experienced legal professionals to evaluate how frontier AI models handle real legal work for one of its clients: research memos, contract review and drafting, motion and brief sections, compliance analyses, due diligence summaries and regulatory responses. You bring the judgment you have built marking up a junior's memo, checking a research trail before relying on it, and redlining a draft until it is the one you would sign.
In this role, you will design challenging, realistic tasks drawn from your own practice, such as a research memo on a discrete question, a contract redline with an issues list, a section of a motion or brief, a compliance gap analysis, a due diligence summary, a discovery plan, or a response to a regulator, run them through frontier AI agents, and evaluate what comes back against a professional standard. You will work with realistic professional files, the kind a practitioner in your field actually handles, which you assemble yourself. Some tasks are compact, built around a handful of files; others are larger scenarios that take several days to build. In every case the goal is the same: a task a competent professional in your field would complete correctly and a frontier model currently gets wrong.
This is not a traditional law role. You will be helping build better AI by putting your knowledge to work in a structured, flexible, fully remote environment. The work is long form and self directed, and clear written reasoning matters as much as technical depth.
Key Responsibilities
Design challenging, realistic legal tasks drawn from your own day-to-day work. Examples include a research memo on a discrete legal question, a contract redline with an accompanying issues list, a section of a motion or brief, a compliance gap analysis, a due diligence summary, a discovery plan, or a response to a regulatory inquiry
Write each task prompt the way you would brief a trusted colleague, with the context, constraints, and expectations a real assignment would carry
Author the realistic supporting files a professional would need to complete the task, such as agreements, pleadings, correspondence, internal policies, fact summaries, and exhibits
Run your tasks through frontier AI models and evaluate the deliverable they produce (the memo, redline, brief section, or analysis) against the standard you would hold a colleague to
Compare two AI model outputs produced from identical prompts and files, decide which performed better, and document in writing where each one fell short
Write detailed grading rubrics that specify what a correct deliverable must contain, including the right issues spotted, the right authorities applied, the right contract provisions flagged, and the right tone and register for the intended recipient
Explain in writing why a given AI response passes or fails each rubric criterion
Flag concrete failures with supporting evidence, including fabricated or misread authorities, the wrong legal standard applied, missed issues, ignored provisions, conclusions the facts do not support, and misinterpretations of what the assignment actually asked for
Review and evaluate AI-generated responses to legal prompts for accuracy, clarity, and professional appropriateness, and annotate and rank model outputs to guide AI training
Contribute across litigation, transactional, compliance and regulatory, and intellectual property work, and, as you gain experience, review and refine tasks built by other legal experts
Submit task proposals for expert review, then build accepted tasks in full and iterate based on written reviewer feedback
Follow detailed written instructions precisely, including document formatting and file upload requirements
Maintain consistent quality and throughput throughout the sprint engagement
General Requirements
2+ years of hands on experience in your field preferred.
Full professional or native level written and spoken English, with strong written communication. You can explain complex professional reasoning clearly and concisely, and articulate why a result is wrong, not only that it is.
Comfort with ambiguity and attention to detail. You can orient in a new set of files and build an accurate, deep working picture of it quickly, especially when the subject sits partly outside your own specialization. You verify what a document claims against the underlying numbers, sources or facts.
Capable of interpreting feedback, judging which parts of it are actually correct, and applying it without hand holding. When stuck, you look for the answer rather than waiting for one.
Ability to ramp quickly on unfamiliar work from written material and instructions alone, including where that material is incomplete (for example, writing grading rubrics for the first time).
General familiarity with AI and LLM tools. You have used models like Claude or ChatGPT in professional work and have the judgment to tell a well reasoned answer from a plausible sounding but incorrect one.
Baseline tech literacy: comfortable with cloud file tools (e.g., Google Workspace), managing browser profiles, downloading and installing desktop apps (e.g., Claude), and everyday file handling (e.g., converting between Excel and Google Sheets, zipping files for sharing).
Available at least 10 hours per week, with no weekly maximum. Consistent availability is valued and full time hours are available.
Based in the United States, Canada, or the UK.
Qualifications
Demonstrated legal experience (litigation, corporate/transactional, compliance, or similar); does not need to be a currently practicing attorney
J.D. and bar admission not required, though preferred, practical legal expertise matters more than credentials
Strong written communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts clearly and concisely
Hands-on practitioner: you currently do (or recently did) this work at a detailed, individual-contributor level, not solely in a managerial capacity
Careful reader of written instructions; receptive to feedback and revision cycles
Baseline tech literacy: comfortable with cloud file tools (e.g., Google Workspace), managing browser profiles, downloading and installing desktop apps (e.g., Claude), and everyday file handling (e.g., converting between Excel and Google Sheets, zipping files for sharing)
Comfortable working independently in a remote, self-directed environment
Based in the United States
Compensation And Term
Pay: $40-$125/hr USD. Paid via PayPal on a regular cadence.
Contract position. Fully remote. Minimum 10 hours per week with no weekly maximum.
Flexible scheduling. Multi day task timers let you spread work across days.
Access to Claude and ChatGPT is provided through the project; no personal subscription is required.
What To Expect
Apply through link provided to you and create your account.
Complete the skills assessment (about 2 to 4 hours, unpaid). It tests domain fit, careful reading, and how you judge a model's output against a professional standard. All work must be your own; submissions produced with AI tools are rejected, and this is the single most common reason candidates do not pass.
Our team reviews your assessment. If you pass, you complete onboarding, start on regular paid projects in your field, and complete a short training project that walks through how tasks, files, and rubrics are built.
Propose a task from your professional experience: the scenario, the prompt, the files you will build, and where you expect the model to fail. An expert reviewer reads it and sends written feedback either way.
Once your proposal is accepted, build the task in full and run it against frontier models. Every completed task goes through expert review, and experienced contributors are invited to review and refine other experts' tasks.
Each stage is a gate: work must be accepted before you move on. You are compensated for every step you complete, but not every submission is accepted. Feedback and revision are a normal part of the process. Support is available through platform instructions, onboarding materials, a dedicated Slack channel, and office hours.
Compensation
Pay: The annualized pay for this position ranges from $83,000 to $260,000 when calculated on a full-time basis. Pay for contract engagements is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and the candidate’s preference (each candidate’s pay rate affects the client bill rate which can affect the candidate’s competitiveness for the position).
Confidentiality
Latitude will not propose you to prospective clients without your prior consent. Candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.
