Engineering Manager, WMS
Summary
Anchanto, a leading global B2B SaaS enterprise, seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the critical development and operations of its Warehouse Management System (WMS). This platform is central to the daily operations of brands, retailers, and logistics partners, managing complex workflows including inventory control, order fulfillment, and omnichannel commerce. The Engineering Manager will drive the engineering and quality assurance teams, fostering a culture of outcome ownership rather than mere task oversight. Reporting to the Engineering Head of WMS, this leader is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and technical excellence of a mission-critical system that supports high-volume, real-time warehouse operations across Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and AWS environments. The role demands a strategic partner who can balance technical innovation with operational stability while guiding the team through a transition to an integrated, AI-first working model.
Responsibilities
Delivery Management: Ensure predictable engineering output by managing capacity planning, identifying risks early, and executing recovery strategies to meet 90-day commitments with high accuracy and zero delays.
Quality Engineering Leadership: Establish and maintain rigorous standards for code quality, test coverage (including RSpec, integration, and load testing), and deployment frequency. Own the metrics for change failure rates and ensure independent QA sign-off remains unaffected by delivery pressures.
System Reliability & Performance: Directly manage service availability and latency, overseeing incident response and root cause analysis to resolve recurring issues. Target 99.9% uptime for owned services and sub-200ms P95 latency for critical APIs while reducing Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR).
Technical Architecture & Security: Operate within established architectural and security guardrails to protect multi-tenant isolation and system performance. Enforce secure software development lifecycle practices, including threat modeling, static and dynamic analysis, and compliance with SOC 2 and ISO 27001 standards.
Cost Optimization: Monitor and optimize engineering costs related to compute, storage, and AI tooling, ensuring that cost-per-delivered-item and infrastructure expenses trend downward without compromising quality.
AI Integration: Drive the adoption of AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Copilot) to shift the team toward spec-driven delivery. Lead the transition of AI-enabled features, such as intelligent slotting and capacity forecasting, from pilot programs to production-grade solutions.
Team Development & Staffing: Manage the full lifecycle of team members, including hiring, performance reviews, and career growth planning. Foster a culture of continuous learning that encourages engineers to evolve from specialists into versatile product builders.
Hands-on Technical Contribution: Engage directly in solution design, prototyping, and complex implementation tasks where necessary to unblock the team. Gradually increase team autonomy to reduce dependency on the manager for routine decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner effectively with the Engineering Head, Product Management, Delivery Managers, and other technical leads to align on priorities, manage technical debt, and ensure smooth go-live processes.
Stakeholder Alignment: Coordinate with Sales, Customer Success, Implementation teams, and Security groups to manage customer commitments, handle escalations, and ensure release readiness.
Requirements
Requirements:
Experience: 9 to 18 years of software engineering background, including a minimum of 4 years in a leadership role managing engineering teams and owning delivery outcomes.
Technical Proficiency: Deep expertise in Ruby on Rails backend development at scale, with strong knowledge of asynchronous processing (Sidekiq/Redis), PostgreSQL performance tuning, and high-throughput system architectures.
Cloud & Infrastructure: Proven experience building distributed, event-driven systems on AWS, including EKS/Kubernetes, ECS, SQS/SNS, EventBridge, Aurora, S3, API Gateway, and Redis.
System Design: Strong capability in designing scalable, multi-tenant architectures with robust handling of idempotency, retries, backpressure, and failure scenarios.
Reliability Engineering: Solid background in observability (metrics, logs, traces), SLO/SLI definition, incident management, and maintaining strict on-call discipline.
DevOps & Automation: Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CodePipeline), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes/Helm), and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, AWS CDK).
Quality Assurance: Demonstrated experience leading QA engineers or quality practices, with a focus on maintaining independent sign-off and improving DORA metrics.
AI & Modern Tooling: Practical experience utilizing AI coding tools to enhance productivity and a track record of transitioning teams to spec-driven workflows.
Security Compliance: Familiarity with SOC 2 and ISO 27001 controls, GDPR, PII handling, and secure SDLC practices including threat modeling and vulnerability scanning.
Leadership Skills: Ability to calibrate performance levels, coach team members, manage underperformance, and guide teams through organizational change.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with monolith-to-microservices migration and domain knowledge in WMS, OMS, TMS, or 3PL logistics.
Core Behaviors: A mindset focused on outcome ownership, execution discipline, systems thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a structured leadership framework while maintaining the autonomy to solve problems proactively.
