Who We Are
We are the first publicly-traded biotech or pharmaceutical company to take the form of a public benefit corporation. Our public benefit purpose is to provide a brighter future for patients through the development of novel pharmaceutical therapies; and technologies that expand the availability of transplantable organs.
United Therapeutics (Nasdaq: UTHR) seeks to travel down the corridors of indifference to develop treatments for rare, deadly diseases. We were founded in 1996 by a family seeking a cure for their daughter’s pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Today, we have six FDA-approved therapies that treat PAH, pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD) and neuroblastoma, a rare pediatric cancer. Our near-term pipeline seeks to develop additional therapies for PAH and pulmonary fibrosis (PF).
The cure for end-stage life-threatening diseases like PAH, PH-ILD, PF, and many others is an organ transplant, but only a small percentage of donated organs are available to address the vast need. For this reason, we are working to create manufactured organs to address the shortage of kidneys, hearts, lungs, and livers available for transplant. We believe an unlimited supply of tolerable, transplantable organs will eliminate the transplant waiting list and cure end-stage organ diseases for which transplant is not currently an option.
Who You Are
You are a proactive problem solver who thrives at the intersection of patient access, pharmacy operations, and cross-functional collaboration. You bring experience navigating specialty pharmacy and patient support environments, with a talent for connecting complex information, identifying barriers, and driving issues through resolution. Highly organized and detail-oriented, you can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and a patient-focused mindset. You are an effective communicator who builds strong partnerships across teams, leverages data and technology to uncover insights, and takes ownership of delivering timely, actionable solutions that help patients access and start therapy as efficiently as possible.
The Pharmacy Operations Specialist II is responsible for effective collaboration with specialty pharmacy partners, Patient Relations and key cross functional stakeholders and serves as a primary point of contact for pharmacy-related questions, status updates, and escalations in removing non-clinical barriers to therapy. This role obtains and communicates pharmacy statuses, identifies trends and manages escalations and complex issues through resolution.
Serve as a liaison between specialty pharmacy partners and internal stakeholders, coordinating the resolution of pharmacy-related issues and escalating complex or high-impact concerns to management
Own specialty pharmacy operations within assigned regions, partnering cross-functionally to support the resolution of non-clinical barriers impacting the patient journey
Evaluate the complete patient journey by connecting information across various platforms to provide accurate, actionable status updates to the appropriate teams in supporting timely follow-up and next steps
Support day-to-day activities required for Start Programs ensuring activities are completed accurately, timely and in accordance with program guidelines
Monitor pharmacy trends and identify non-clinical barriers that may delay access or treatment initiation providing actionable recommendations to leadership
Support team with workload balancing, pharmacy status management, and coverage coordination to support business continuity
Participate in internal regional calls to discuss trends in referrals and non-clinical barriers
Utilize Health Cloud, Tableau, and other reporting tools to monitor patients in process, referral progression and program management
Ensure adherence to company policies, work instructions, operational procedures, compliance requirements, and escalation protocols
Ensure all Patient Relations activities will be performed in a manner that is consistent with and compliant with laws and company policies
Follow UT code of conduct, policies and procedures, departmental practices and any other business rules applicable to Patient Relations
Report any instances of misconduct or non-compliance with UT policies and procedures
Complete assigned training and education requirements
Minimum Requirements
H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with 6+ years of relevant experience in patient support, access, pharmacy or like role or,
Associate degree with 4+ years of relevant experience in patient support, access, pharmacy or like role or,
Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience in patient support, access, pharmacy or like role
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with cross-functional teams
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to efficiently manage high-volume, routine tasks while simultaneously applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to operate within Department Practice guidelines to deliver a consistently compliant program execution
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple activities simultaneously, and prioritize competing demands while maintaining accuracy and quality.
Ability to work onsite at UT Cares, M-F from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate Degree in life sciences, business, or a related field
Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences, business, or a related field
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
Experience with Salesforce or Healthcloud CRM platforms
Experience with Tableau or similar business intelligence tools
Rare disease and / or complex therapy administration experience
Specialty pharmacy / channel operations data exchange and integration experience
Excellent organizational and analytical skills
Understanding of pharmacy data capabilities / feeds and how they integrate into patient support
Job Location
This position will be located at the Morrisville, NC location of United Therapeutics.
