About the Role
Are you passionate about building software, solving complex technical problems, and understanding how real products are engineered?
Do you enjoy taking a problem, breaking it down, and turning it into a reliable software solution?
MPCircle is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team and work alongside experienced engineers on real startup products.
This is a hands-on engineering internship for people who want to move beyond tutorials and coursework and experience how software is actually designed, built, tested, reviewed, deployed, and maintained.
You will work on real product features, contribute to an existing codebase, participate in engineering discussions, and receive feedback through the development process.
Internship Details
Duration: 4 Months
Location: Remote
Compensation: Unpaid
Certification: $200 upon successful completion
What You'll Do
As a Software Engineering Intern, you may contribute across different areas of the software development lifecycle, including:
Build, improve, and maintain software features across web, mobile, and backend systems.
Translate product requirements and technical specifications into working software.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code.
Develop and integrate APIs and work with databases.
Debug existing applications and identify the root cause of technical issues.
Write tests and help maintain software reliability.
Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback from experienced engineers.
Collaborate with other engineers to design and implement technical solutions.
Work with Git and GitHub using professional version-control practices.
Participate in sprint planning, task breakdown, and technical discussions using Linear.
Investigate unfamiliar technologies, libraries, and codebases when necessary.
Contribute to improving application performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
Learn and apply software engineering principles throughout the development lifecycle.
What We're Looking For
We're not looking for someone who simply knows how to follow tutorials.
We want candidates who have demonstrated that they can learn independently, think critically, and build things themselves.
You should have:
At least one year of dedicated learning or practical experience through personal projects, online courses, bootcamps, open-source contributions, or similar experience.
A solid understanding of at least one programming language.
Experience building software projects independently or as part of a team.
A good understanding of fundamental programming concepts such as data structures, control flow, functions, APIs, and error handling.
An understanding of Git and basic software development workflows.
Familiarity with web or application development concepts.
Strong problem-solving and debugging abilities.
The ability to read and understand existing code.
A willingness to learn technologies you haven't worked with before.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other engineers.
The ability to receive feedback, ask thoughtful questions, and continuously improve.
Technologies You'll Work With
Depending on the project and your strengths, you may work with:
JavaScript / TypeScript
React
Node.js
Express.js
NestJS
Flutter / Dart
PostgreSQL
MySQL
Redis
Docker
REST APIs
Git & GitHub
Linear
You do not need to know every technology listed above.
We care more about your engineering fundamentals, problem-solving ability, learning speed, and willingness to understand how things work.
What You'll Learn
During the internship, you'll gain practical exposure to:
Software architecture and system design
Writing maintainable and scalable code
API development and integration
Database design and data management
Testing and debugging
Version control and collaborative development
Code reviews and engineering standards
Application security and reliability
Performance optimization
CI/CD and deployment workflows
Working with existing production codebases
Agile development and sprint cycles
Technical communication and documentation
Why Intern with MPCircle?
At MPCircle, interns don't spend four months building toy projects that never leave their laptops.
You'll have the opportunity to:
Work on real startup products and production-oriented systems.
Contribute to features that solve actual product problems.
Work alongside experienced engineers and receive meaningful code reviews.
Participate in real sprint cycles and technical discussions.
Learn how engineering teams make technical decisions.
Work with an existing codebase rather than starting every project from scratch.
Build experience across different areas of software engineering.
Develop portfolio-quality work that demonstrates how you actually engineer software.
Learn how to approach unfamiliar problems independently.
Build the engineering habits and judgment needed to transition into a professional software engineering role.
Who Will Thrive Here?
This internship is a strong fit for someone who:
Builds things outside of school or tutorials.
Is comfortable being challenged technically.
Doesn't give up when the first solution doesn't work.
Can investigate a problem before immediately asking for the answer.
Enjoys understanding why something works, not just how to make it work.
Takes code quality and learning seriously.
Communicates clearly and responds well to feedback.
Wants to become a strong software engineer, not simply add an internship to their CV.
If you're looking for an internship where you can build real software, work through real engineering problems, and develop the skills needed to become a professional software engineer, we'd like to hear from you.
