Title: Senior Technical Writer – Identity & Access Management (IAM)
Location: Remote – United States
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM CST
Duration & Type: Initial 6-Month Contract with Potential to Extend or Convert to FTE
Compensation: Competitive W2 hourly rate ($65-67 per hour), plus access to healthcare and dental insurance plans of choice (benefit plan details available upon request)
Summary
Chamberlain Advisors is seeking a Senior Technical Writer – Identity & Access Management (IAM) for our client, a major global airline and transportation organization headquartered in Chicago, to support a major enterprise initiative focused on modernizing workforce identity platforms, authentication services, and access management solutions. This individual will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and governing technical and business-facing documentation that enables secure, compliant, and user-friendly workforce identity services.
The Senior Technical Writer will partner closely with Identity Engineering, Identity Governance, Cybersecurity, Risk, Compliance, Service Desk, Product, and business stakeholders to translate complex identity, authentication, authorization, access management, and cybersecurity concepts into clear, actionable documentation.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical writing background combined with substantive knowledge of IAM and cybersecurity. This person must be equally comfortable discussing SAML assertions, authentication protocols, federation, and identity architecture with technical SMEs and translating those conversations into straightforward guidance that employees and business stakeholders can easily understand and follow. What You Will Be Accountable For
Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation supporting enterprise workforce Identity & Access Management services, including Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), passwordless authentication, passkeys, authorization services, identity integrations, and federation services.
Create detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs), administrator guides, operational procedures, implementation guides, runbooks, support documentation, technical standards, and troubleshooting materials.
Document IAM architectures, authentication and authorization workflows, integrations, identity lifecycle processes, and operational support procedures.
Translate highly technical IAM and cybersecurity concepts into clear, concise, and accessible content for both technical and non-technical audiences across a large global workforce.
Develop employee-facing documentation supporting identity technology rollouts and security transformations, including knowledge base articles, self-service instructions, FAQs, employee guides, training materials, adoption resources, executive summaries, awareness materials, and change communications.
Partner directly with identity engineers, architects, analysts, cybersecurity professionals, and business stakeholders to gather technical information, conduct SME interviews, validate documentation, and ensure technical accuracy.
Establish and maintain documentation standards, templates, governance practices, and review processes to drive consistency across the IAM documentation portfolio.
Continuously improve documentation for usability, accessibility, accuracy, consistency, and employee adoption.
Support knowledge sharing and documentation governance throughout the SkyIdentity workforce identity modernization initiative.
What Qualifications You Need
5+ years of technical writing experience supporting enterprise technology environments, with senior-level experience strongly preferred.
3+ years of experience documenting IAM, cybersecurity, information security, or closely related security programs.
Demonstrated ability to create documentation for both highly technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong understanding of Workforce Identity & Access Management (IAM) principles and enterprise identity environments.
Proven ability to simplify complex technical and cybersecurity concepts into clear, actionable business language.
Experience developing technical documentation such as SOPs, runbooks, implementation guides, administrator documentation, knowledge articles, process documentation, and technical standards.
Strong interviewing, information-gathering, and requirements-gathering skills with the ability to work directly with engineers, architects, SMEs, and business stakeholders.
Experience using modern documentation, knowledge-management, and collaboration platforms.
Familiarity with modern authentication and authorization concepts, including: Single Sign-On (SSO), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Passwordless authentication and passkeys, Federation, Identity lifecycle management, Access governance, Zero Trust principles
Working knowledge of authentication and identity standards/protocols, including: SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SCIM, FIDO2 / Passkeys, Kerberos, Federation services
Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and security models, including NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls, and Zero Trust.
Exceptional written communication, organization, editing, and content-development skills.
Preferred Qualifications
7+ years of technical writing experience within cybersecurity, identity management, authentication, security architecture, governance/risk/compliance, cloud computing, system administration, network security, or related security disciplines.
3+ years of hands-on experience working with IAM platforms or closely supporting IAM engineering teams.
Experience documenting platforms such as Microsoft Entra, Okta, Duo, Ping Identity, ForgeRock, SailPoint, or comparable identity technologies.
Experience supporting or documenting identity governance, access certification, privileged access management, workforce MFA, or identity lifecycle management programs.
Experience supporting large-scale enterprise technology transformations or security modernization initiatives.
Experience creating learning content, training materials, change communications, and end-user adoption resources.
Knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks such as SOX, PCI, GDPR, and privacy controls.
Airline or transportation industry experience.
Familiarity with transportation-sector regulatory, cybersecurity, or compliance requirements.
Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CRISC are advantageous.
