Company Description CIVITAS Kashmir is a youth-led initiative focused on law, thought, society, and the humanities, based in Kashmir. The initiative creates space for young people to actively engage with ideas through research, discussions, publications, lectures, debates, academic programs, cultural projects, and collaborations. CIVITAS emphasizes rigorous reading, independent thinking, informed debate, and meaningful participation in public and intellectual life, with a special focus on Kashmir studies and broader humanities. It is built on the belief that intellectual curiosity should be accessible regardless of age or geography, enabling young people in Kashmir to encounter serious scholarship and contribute to conversations that shape society.
Role Description The Deputy Head of Department, Cultural Affairs will support the design, coordination, and delivery of CIVITAS Kashmir’s cultural initiatives and programs. This part-time, hybrid role is based in Srinagar, with a mix of on-site work and some work-from-home flexibility. Typical responsibilities include planning and overseeing cultural events, discussions, and performances; coordinating with artists, scholars, and partner organizations; and contributing to program concepts that connect culture with law, history, philosophy, and civic thought. The role involves drafting concept notes, event briefs, and outreach materials; supervising volunteers or junior team members involved in cultural projects; and maintaining documentation, schedules, and reports related to cultural activities. The Deputy Head will also assist with strategic planning for the Cultural Affairs department, help build collaborations with institutions and communities, and ensure that all initiatives reflect CIVITAS’s values of intellectual rigor, inclusivity, and youth engagement.
Qualifications
Strong background in culture, humanities, or social sciences, with demonstrated interest in areas such as history, literature, philosophy, political thought, or Kashmir studies.
Experience in planning and managing cultural events or programs, including coordination of logistics, stakeholders, and timelines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear program documents, outreach content, and reports.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse youth groups, partners, and communities, and to lead small teams or volunteers.
Organizational and project management skills, including attention to detail, time management, and the ability to handle multiple initiatives.
Comfort with hybrid work arrangements, including use of digital tools for communication, documentation, and online programming.
Prior involvement in student initiatives, cultural organizations, research projects, or debate and discussion forums is highly beneficial.
