Relocation Support: This role is based in Schaftenau, Austria. Novartis is unable to offer relocation support: please only apply if accessible.
Shape the future of biological quality control by turning advanced science into reliable laboratory solutions. In this role, you will develop, validate, and improve virological, molecular biological, and cell-based analytical methods that support the testing of cell banks and biological process intermediates. Working across laboratories and functions, you will solve complex technical challenges, strengthen compliant testing strategies, and help ensure innovative methods are ready for routine use.
Job Description
Major Accountabilities
Plan and coordinate development, optimization, validation, and transfer of cell-based and molecular biological analytical methods.
Develop virus-based assays, real-time polymerase chain reaction methods, and associated analytical readouts.
Prepare and maintain analytical procedures, protocols, reports, risk assessments, and regulated technical documentation.
Investigate technical issues, determine root causes, and establish scientifically sound corrective and preventive actions.
Coordinate laboratory priorities, resources, equipment, materials, and activities across analysts and collaborating laboratories.
Partner across quality, regulatory, manufacturing, development, biosafety, and external teams to deliver robust analytical solutions.
Support deviations, out-of-expectation investigations, change controls, data reviews, and inspection readiness activities.
Drive continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and efficient workflows while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance.
Obligatory Requirements:
University degree in virology, molecular biology, cell biology, biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry, or a related life-science discipline.
Practical experience with mammalian cell culture, cell-based analytical techniques, virus-based methods, and safe handling of biological materials.
Knowledge of nucleic acid amplification techniques and associated molecular biological analytical workflows.
Strong organizational skills to coordinate laboratory activities, manage priorities, and deliver tasks reliably.
Ability to analyze complex technical issues and translate scientific findings into practical laboratory procedures.
Very good written and spoken English, plus German proficiency or willingness to develop it.

In accordance with Austrian law, we are obliged to disclose the minimum salary as stated in the collective bargaining agreement. For this position the minimum salary is €59,781.96 EUR/year (on a full-time basis). We also offer a potential market oriented excess payment in line with your experience and qualifications.

Expected Annual Base Salary Range for role:
Austria: EUR 60,978.00 - 95,800.00 EUR
The salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.
In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for a performance-based bonus depending on certain performance parameters. Further details will be provided during the application process.
