Role Overview
CustomFurnish is looking for an experienced Operations Head to lead its furniture manufacturing and installation operations. The person will be responsible for ensuring that every project is manufactured, delivered and installed on time, meets the required quality standards, and is executed efficiently within agreed budgets.
The role requires hands-on experience in furniture manufacturing and a proven track record of managing operations, factory teams and site installation teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning and Factory Management
Take complete ownership of factory operations, from receipt of approved designs through manufacturing, quality checks, packing and dispatch.
Prepare and monitor production schedules based on project commitments, factory capacity and material availability.
Manage manpower, machinery and workflow to achieve production targets.
Identify bottlenecks early and take corrective action to prevent delays.
Ensure machinery maintenance, workplace safety and factory housekeeping.
2. Installation and Project Handover
Lead installation supervisors, carpenters and other site execution teams.
Plan team allocation and installation schedules across projects.
Ensure site readiness is confirmed before dispatch and installation.
Ensure furniture is transported, handled, stored and installed correctly, with adequate protection against damage.
Monitor installation progress, resolve site issues and ensure timely completion and customer handover.
Ensure sites are maintained properly, with daily cleaning, safe material stacking and protection of the customer’s property.
3. Quality Control
Establish and enforce quality checks for incoming materials, manufacturing, finished furniture and installation.
Ensure execution matches approved drawings, dimensions, materials, finishes and hardware specifications.
Prevent defective or incomplete material from being dispatched.
Reduce manufacturing defects, installation errors, damage and repeat rectification visits.
Investigate recurring problems and implement corrective measures to prevent their recurrence.
4. Timely Delivery and Accountability
Own project execution timelines from approved design handover to installation completion.
Track milestones and ensure delivery commitments are met.
Flag risks in advance and implement recovery plans when projects fall behind schedule.
Maintain clear accountability for pending work, with a responsible person and completion date for every issue.
Provide management with regular updates on production, dispatch, installation and delayed projects.
5. Coordination with Design, Sales and Procurement
Coordinate with the design team to ensure drawings, measurements and specifications are complete before production begins.
Resolve execution queries before manufacturing and control changes after production release.
Coordinate with sales and accounts to confirm commercial clearance before dispatch.
Oversee procurement planning and supplier performance to ensure timely availability of approved materials and hardware.
6. Cost and Productivity Management
Control material wastage, rework, overtime, transportation and installation costs.
Improve factory output and installation productivity while maintaining quality.
Monitor inventory, material consumption and operational expenses.
Introduce practical process improvements to increase efficiency.
7. Team Management and Customer Issue Resolution
Set clear targets and responsibilities for factory and installation teams.
Conduct regular operational reviews and hold teams accountable for performance.
Train teams on quality standards, installation practices and safety.
Take ownership of execution-related complaints and ensure prompt closure of pending work and rectifications.
Required Experience and Skills
Prior experience in furniture or modular furniture manufacturing is essential, preferably covering kitchens, wardrobes and other customised home furniture.
Must have previously managed operations, including factory production and site installation.
Strong understanding of furniture materials, hardware, manufacturing processes, drawings and installation methods.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver them within committed timelines.
Experience leading factory staff, supervisors, carpenters, vendors and installation teams.
Strong planning, problem-solving, cost-control and people-management skills.
Willingness to visit the factory and project sites regularly and take direct responsibility for results.
