About The Role
We are seeking a motivated Applications Engineer to join our dynamic team at VanTran Industries. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our skidded solutions for the solar and energy storage sectors. This position involves working closely with customers to understand their technical needs, reviewing specifications, generating detailed quotes, and providing ongoing support throughout the sales and project lifecycle. The Applications Engineer will serve as a technical liaison, ensuring that our products are optimized for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness while adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical design expertise, with a focus on the integration of structural skids with transformers and switchgear. They will collaborate across departments—including sales, product management, and engineering—to develop tailored solutions that meet customer specifications and industry norms. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge renewable energy projects, ensuring our solutions deliver maximum value and operational excellence.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 2-5 years of professional experience in application or mechanical design engineering. Experience with mechanical integration of electrical equipment, particularly within the solar or energy storage industries, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a solid understanding of mechanical design principles, design for manufacturability, and familiarity with mechanical systems and pre-configured/skidded electromechanical assemblies.
Proficiency in mechanical design software such as SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD is essential, with additional experience in FEA modeling considered a plus. Knowledge of electrical, control systems, and data acquisition or field monitoring systems will be advantageous. Certifications such as a Professional Engineer (PE) license are a plus but not mandatory.
Strong soft skills are equally important; candidates should possess excellent communication and presentation abilities, problem-solving skills, and a keen attention to detail. The ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team environment is essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Serve as a technical resource for the mechanical integration and optimization of skidded liquid-filled medium voltage transformers, switchgear cabinets, and inverters tailored for solar and energy storage applications.
Provide expert guidance on product selection, specifications, and customization options to meet specific customer requirements.
Analyze technical challenges and recommend effective solutions to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance.
Engage directly with customers to understand their needs, address inquiries, and propose suitable integrated design solutions.
Prepare and deliver technical presentations, proposals, and customer-facing quotes to support the sales process.
Support sales efforts through technical training sessions and customer visits, fostering strong relationships and trust.
Interpret customer specifications and industry standards to develop accurate and comprehensive design requirements.
Collaborate with design engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure products are manufacturable, reliable, and aligned with performance and cost targets.
Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including drawings, manuals, and data sheets.
Identify opportunities for value engineering within integrated designs to optimize cost and functionality based on customer needs.
Assist in managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of proposals, designs, and support documentation.
Coordinate with supply chain and production teams to address lead times, resource planning, and delivery schedules.
Stay current with industry standards, codes, and regulations such as IEEE, IEC, UL, and ASCE, ensuring compliance across all products and applications.
Ensure all solutions adhere to environmental and safety regulations, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
