Job Summary
The Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician supports engine and product functional testing by preparing, assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining test articles, fixtures, rigs, and test-cell equipment. The role is responsible for instrumentation installation, test-cell setup, preliminary troubleshooting, engine installation and removal, and execution of tests in accordance with approved test plans, procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.
The technician ensures test equipment and test articles are properly configured to generate reliable, accurate, and traceable test data. The role also supports laboratory equipment maintenance, continuous improvement, and safe operation of test facilities, including 24/7 test-cell operations.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct and monitor engine and product functional tests in accordance with approved test plans, procedures, and methodologies.
Prepare test articles, including initial assembly, instrumentation installation, modifications, and final teardown, in line with engineering and test requirements.
Assemble and disassemble engines and test articles as required for testing activities.
Install and remove engines from test cells and support test-cell modifications and setup activities.
Prepare and configure fixtures, rigs, instrumentation, equipment, and test systems to support functional testing.
Install instrumentation in accordance with applicable engineering standards and test requirements.
Operate and monitor test-cell equipment and demonstrate an understanding of how equipment and product performance can impact test validity.
Perform preliminary troubleshooting of test-cell, engine, instrumentation, and equipment issues and escalate complex issues appropriately.
Support test-cell setup, configuration, maintenance, and upkeep of laboratory and testing equipment.
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities using equipment records and available data.
Verify equipment calibration and support data acquisition activities to ensure reliable and accurate test results.
Review and identify data-quality issues and support accurate documentation and reporting of test methods, instrumentation settings, test data, and results.
Maintain good housekeeping and ensure compliance with applicable QMS, safety, environmental, and risk-management requirements.
Follow safety practices, including risk assessments and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
Actively participate in TBWS activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, technicians, and other stakeholders.
Support 24/7 test-cell operations as required.
Perform other duties and activities required to support product testing and laboratory operations.
Skills & Experience
Experience in engine testing, test-cell operations, mechanical testing, or a related technical environment.
Working knowledge of engine components, engine assembly/disassembly, and engine test-cell operations.
Ability to prepare and configure test articles, fixtures, rigs, instrumentation, and associated equipment.
Understanding test equipment functions and their impact on the validity and quality of test results.
Ability to perform preliminary troubleshooting of engines, test cells, and laboratory equipment.
Working knowledge of instrumentation installation and data acquisition processes.
Knowledge of QMS requirements, safety practices, risk assessment, and LOTO procedures.
Ability to interpret test plans, work instructions, and established test procedures.
Good communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Good working knowledge of MS Excel and ability to document and report test results accurately.
Ability to work effectively in a team and support 24/7 test-cell operations when required.
Experience with AVL PUMA test-cell systems is an advantage.
Demonstrated ability to identify problems, determine potential causes, and implement appropriate corrective actions.

Qualifications
High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field.
A regionally applicable technical certification or a two-year Associate Degree from an accredited college/university in a relevant field may be required.
Requires some relevant work experience and intermediate-level knowledge gained through education, training, or on-the-job experience.
This position may require licensing or other requirements for compliance with applicable export control or sanctions regulations.
