Job Description
The Maintenance & Reliability Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of manufacturing, packaging, utilities, and facility assets. The role delivers technical maintenance support, drives equipment reliability improvements, and ensures maintenance activities are executed in compliance with GMP, EHS, and data integrity requirements.
The position works cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, Facilities and Engineering teams to improve asset performance, support production continuity, and maintain inspection readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Reliability & Maintenance
Provide day-to-day engineering support for manufacturing and utility equipment.
Support execution and optimization of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programs.
Lead and participate in equipment troubleshooting activities and root cause investigations.
Develop and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and reduce recurrence of failures.
Support asset lifecycle management and reliability initiatives.
GMP Compliance & Quality Systems
Ensure maintenance activities comply with GMP, EHS, and Data Integrity requirements.
Support deviation investigations, CAPAs, change controls and quality records.
Maintain inspection readiness of maintenance systems and documentation.
Ensure maintenance documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Support internal audits and regulatory inspections.
CMMS & Maintenance Planning
Utilise Maximo and associated systems to support maintenance planning and execution.
Review equipment performance trends and maintenance KPIs.
Support PM optimisation through data analysis and equipment history review.
Maintain accurate asset hierarchies, BOMs, maintenance plans and work order records.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve equipment uptime, reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
Participate in Operational Excellence initiatives and structured problem-solving activities.
Support implementation of reliability-centered and condition-based maintenance approaches where appropriate.
Contribute to standardization and simplification initiatives across the maintenance organisation.
Technical & Operational Support
Provide engineering support during critical production activities and equipment failures.
Support shutdown planning and execution activities.
Participate in project activities including equipment upgrades, new equipment introduction and commissioning.
Support vendor and contractor management activities.
Serve as a technical resource for assigned asset systems.
Knowledge:
Demonstrates working understanding and application of Engineering principles, concepts, practices, and standards, along with full working knowledge of industry practices.
Demonstrates working knowledge in aseptic processes, process controls, and equipment design.
Is able to develop solutions to semi-complex problems.
Demonstrates strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience supporting maintenance and reliability programs in a GMP environment.
Specific Education & Experience Requirements:
Relevant experience and a BS or MA/MBA in engineering.
Previous experience in engineering in highly regulated manufacturing environments desirable
Working knowledge of CMMS systems such as Maximo.
Experience participating in investigations and root cause analysis activities.
Experience with Reliability Engineering methodologies.
Knowledge of utilities and manufacturing process equipment.
Experience with Operational Excellence, Lean or Six Sigma tools.
Familiarity with Predictive Maintenance technologies and asset condition monitoring.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.
Knowledge of maintenance and reliability best practices.
Ability to analyze equipment performance and maintenance data.
Strong GMP and compliance mindset.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
