We’re actively seeking a talented Sr Software Engineer to join our Annuity Platform Transformation Team in Newport Beach, CA.
The Annuity Platform Transformation team is seeking a hands-on Sr. Full-Stack Developer to build and support AWS-based operational data, integration, and orchestration capabilities for the annuity business. This role will develop services and data pipelines that make replicated policy administration data available to applications, APIs, and batch processes. Existing policy administration platforms will continue to serve as systems of record as surrounding capabilities are modernized. Working with the Lead Software Engineer, architects, Product Owner, and delivery partners, this engineer will contribute to solution design and independently deliver assigned components through development, testing, deployment, and production support.
Primary Responsibilities
Build and maintain ingestion, transformation, and processing pipelines for data replicated into AWS.
Develop reusable datasets and access patterns for contract, fund, rider, and valuation data used by operational services.
Implement data validation, reconciliation, and exception handling; support CDC integration and troubleshoot data issues with source-system and replication teams.
Develop Python services, APIs, and workflow orchestration to support batch processing and application integration.
Implement event-driven processing with appropriate retries, duplicate handling, and recovery controls.
Contribute to component design, explain implementation tradeoffs, and integrate solutions with existing platforms using agreed architecture patterns.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code for assigned AWS components.
Implement automated tests, access controls, logging, monitoring, and alerts in line with engineering and security standards.
Troubleshoot performance and production issues; maintain deployment procedures, operational documentation, and support runbooks.
Translate requirements into technical tasks, provide estimates, and deliver assigned features with appropriate quality and documentation.
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and knowledge sharing; provide practical guidance to less-experienced engineers.
Work with the Lead Software Engineer, QA, and delivery partners to resolve dependencies, raise risks, and improve engineering practices.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of software engineering experience, including delivery and support of production applications or services.
3+ years of hands-on AWS experience building and deploying production solutions.
Strong Python development skills and practical experience with SQL and relational databases.
Experience building APIs, data pipelines, and integrations that support application or operational processing.
Hands-on experience with relevant AWS services, such as S3, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge or SQS, and RDS or Aurora; ability to apply appropriate services to a use case.
Experience with Git, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and automated testing.
Practical understanding of cloud security, monitoring, performance tuning, and production troubleshooting.
Ability to work independently on defined components, explain technical decisions, and collaborate across technical and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with change data capture, replication, incremental processing, or source-to-target reconciliation.
Exposure to mainframe data sources such as DB2 or VSAM and integration with legacy applications.
Experience with AWS Glue, streaming or container-based workloads, or tools for operational self-service.
Experience with Java or another backend language in addition to Python.
Experience in insurance, annuities, financial services, or another regulated environment.
