Staff Engineer (Go + AI Native)

We're looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join a fast-growing, AI-native engineering team building large-scale backend systems and modern web and mobile applications.
This is an opportunity for engineers who thrive in highly autonomous environments, enjoy solving complex distributed systems challenges, and actively leverage AI to accelerate software development while maintaining exceptional engineering quality.
Working Hours: Candidates should have a maximum 70% overlap with Pacific Time (PT) to collaborate effectively with the distributed engineering team.
What You'll Do
Design, build, and scale production-grade backend systems using modern cloud technologies.
Own the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation to deployment and production support.
Build highly scalable APIs and distributed services.
Review AI-generated code and ensure production-quality standards.
Collaborate with product and engineering teams to transform high-level business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Improve engineering productivity by leveraging AI-powered development workflows and automation.
Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, system performance, and technical direction.
Work across backend services while collaborating with web and mobile engineering teams.
What We're Looking For
7+ years of professional software engineering experience (10+ years preferred).
Strong experience building and operating large-scale production systems.
Commercial experience with Go (preferred) or strong experience with TypeScript, Rust, Kotlin/JVM, Ruby, or other strongly typed languages.
Solid understanding of distributed systems, API design, and relational databases (PostgreSQL).
Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern engineering practices.
Strong code review skills, including reviewing AI-generated code.
Excellent problem-solving skills and product mindset.
Comfortable working independently in a remote-first, globally distributed team.
Strong written and spoken English.
AI Experience (Highly Important)
We're looking for engineers who actively use AI as part of their daily software development workflow.
Experience with tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI assistants is highly valued.
Ideal candidates have experience using AI for:
Software development
Code generation and review
Engineering automation
Development workflows
CI/CD improvements
Internal developer tooling
AI agents and autonomous workflows
We're particularly interested in engineers who have developed their own AI-assisted workflows and can demonstrate strong engineering judgment when reviewing AI-generated code.
Nice to Have
Commercial experience with Go.
GCP, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
GraphQL, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and Temporal.io.
GitHub Actions (CI/CD).
React or React Native.
Experience building ERP, inventory management, WMS, or eCommerce platforms (Shopify ecosystem preferred).
Experience building internal AI tools, autonomous agents, or "software factory" initiatives.
