Pratt & Whitney’s Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) organization is seeking a goal-oriented, detail-focused Design Engineer II to support the HSE ESTO Airfoils team in Asheville, NC. In this role, you will support military and commercial airfoil production, with a focus on quality improvement, corrective actions, producibility, Cost of Poor Quality reduction, engineering changes, and production support. You will work closely with operations, quality, procurement, suppliers, and engineering SMEs to resolve technical issues and drive continuous improvement across assigned airfoil hardware.
What You Will Do:
Plan and manage corrective actions, Quality Notifications (QN), and Cost of Poor Quality initiatives, driving root-cause investigations and measurable quality and cost improvements.
Develop Class II engineering change packages using Pro-Cert methodology and data-driven decision-making to improve quality, cost, producibility, and production processes.
Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned airfoil part families and engine hardware, proactively eliminating repeat QNs and supporting Stop Delivery Order (SDO)/Fleet Management Programs (FMP) investigations.
Collaborate with operations, quality, procurement, suppliers, and engineering SMEs to resolve production issues, coordinate eSRI responses, support Materials Resource Planning (MRP) requirements, and drive timely technical closure.
Present technical status and recommendations to Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs), HSE/ESTO leadership, and Program Management, while driving continuous improvement and establishing risk-based “Right-size Analysis” practices.

What You Will Learn:
Develop expertise in military and commercial airfoil design, manufacturing, and production support.
Gain experience with Class II engineering changes, QN management, Pro-Cert, RCCA, and risk-based engineering decisions.
Build technical knowledge of assigned airfoil part families and engine hardware, with an opportunity to progress toward CIPT Delegate Approver responsibilities.
Develop cross-functional leadership skills through collaboration with operations, quality, procurement, suppliers, CIPTs, and engineering SMEs.
Strengthen expertise in producibility, Cost of Poor Quality reduction, defect assessment, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or in a related field and 2 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced degree in a related field. Relevant engineering experience with engineering problem-solving, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, or production support.
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience working in the aerospace industry within a manufacturing environment.
Previous airfoil design or manufacturing experience.
Working proficiency with MS Office, Teamcenter, SAP, and Unigraphics/NX.
Demonstrated communication skills, relationship-building ability, interpersonal effectiveness, and cultural awareness.

Department/Segment Overview:
Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO): ESTO provides dedicated support by eliminating quality notifications, escapes, works stops and enabling producibility and delivery of legacy and new parts, assemblies, modules, and engines. ESTO covers all engine programs and part families, enabling engine deliveries, first piece reviews, first article inspections, analysis automation, process certification. ESTO also supports the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) initiative in Operations. Technical disciplines in ESTO include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Product Definition, and Manufacturing Engineering.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
