About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
The Apex Index is looking for a sharp, curious Finance Writer who can turn fast-moving market developments into clear, useful stories readers actually want to finish.
We cover markets, business, technology, artificial intelligence, economics, crypto, and geopolitics, with one simple goal: explain what changed, why it matters, and what could happen next.
This role is for someone who understands that financial journalism does not need to sound like a Bloomberg terminal swallowed a dictionary. You should be able to take complicated information and explain it in plain English without stripping away the important details.
What you’ll do
You’ll report and write timely stories across global financial markets, including equities, crypto, commodities, companies, central banks, economic policy and major geopolitical events affecting markets.
You’ll be expected to:
Write breaking financial news quickly and accurately.
Follow major market-moving developments throughout the day.
Cover earnings, economic data, monetary policy, corporate announcements and major transactions.
Write occasional market and crypto price analysis explaining key levels, catalysts and risks.
Monitor primary sources including regulatory filings, company statements, government releases and official data.
Develop strong headlines without turning every story into clickbait nonsense.
Update developing stories when the facts materially change.
Add useful context rather than simply rewriting what another publication reported.
Work closely with editors on homepage priorities, LIVE coverage and larger stories.
Maintain high standards around sourcing, attribution and corrections.
What we’re looking for
You should be naturally interested in how money, markets and power intersect.
You do not need to know absolutely everything about finance. Nobody does. But you should know how to research quickly, recognize what matters and ask the right questions.
Ideally, you have:
Strong English writing and reporting skills.
Experience writing about finance, markets, business, economics or crypto.
A solid understanding of financial markets and common investment terminology.
The ability to explain complicated subjects in simple language.
Excellent news judgment.
Comfort working quickly during major breaking-news events.
Strong attention to numbers, names, dates and factual details.
Experience using financial filings, earnings releases or economic data as sources.
An instinct for headlines and digital distribution.
The ability to work independently in a remote newsroom.
Experience with SEO, financial data platforms, WordPress or similar publishing systems, social media distribution, and technical analysis is useful but not required.
What good work looks like here
A good Apex Index story does more than tell readers that something happened.
If oil jumps 8%, we want to know why.
If Nvidia loses $300 billion in market value, we want to know what changed.
If Bitcoin breaks an important level, we want to know what traders are watching next.
And if everybody else is repeating the same headline, we want our writer asking whether there is a more useful story underneath it.
