About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

About Us: Magma Group is a fast-growing industrial materials company building scalable businesses across recycling, engineering, and advanced materials. Headquartered in Ahmedabad, Magma serves 250+ manufacturers — from SMEs to large enterprises — with a strong focus on efficiency, reliability, and long-term value creation.
Magma Engineering & MRO is our newest vertical, built to act as an extended in-house engineering arm for factories. We deliver end-to-end solutions across precision engineering, machining, fabrication, and maintenance — from design to final delivery. Backed by a robust ecosystem of in-house capabilities and captive control over advanced machining and fabrication facilities, we operate across CNC, VMC, deep-hole drilling, honing, turn-milling, heavy fabrication, and precision inspection systems.
Position Overview: The role will be responsible for developing robust manufacturing processes, ensuring technical feasibility of customer requirements, optimizing machining operations, and driving productivity, quality, and delivery performance. The individual will lead the technical engineering team and work closely with Production, Quality, Purchase, and Stores to ensure efficient execution from enquiry evaluation through first-piece development and manufacturing readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manufacturing Engineering & Process Planning
Lead manufacturing engineering activities, including process planning, routing, and development of manufacturing strategies for precision-engineered components.
Define operation sequences, machining methodologies, datum strategies, machine selection, tooling, fixtures, and work-holding requirements.
Develop and standardize manufacturing processes to improve productivity, repeatability, quality, and operational efficiency.
Evaluate component drawings, technical specifications, and GD&T requirements to establish suitable manufacturing processes.
Ensure manufacturability of components while balancing quality, cost, lead time, and production requirements.
2. Technical Feasibility & RFQ Evaluation
Review customer RFQs, engineering drawings, and technical requirements to assess manufacturing feasibility.
Provide technical inputs for quotation preparation, including process routes, machine hours, cycle-time estimates, tooling requirements, and manufacturing costs.
Identify technical risks, process limitations, and special manufacturing requirements before committing to customer timelines.
Collaborate with the Business Development team to provide technical inputs during customer discussions and clarify manufacturing-related requirements.
3. CNC Machining & Process Optimization
Guide the development and optimization of CNC machining processes, including multi-axis machining and complex precision components.
Provide technical guidance on 5-axis and higher-axis machining, including 6-axis and 7-axis or other multi-axis configurations, wherever applicable.
Review machining strategies, cutting parameters, tool paths, tooling selection, and fixture designs.
Troubleshoot complex machining challenges, dimensional deviations, surface-finish issues, and process inefficiencies.
Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to minimize rework, scrap, machine downtime, and production bottlenecks.
4. First-Piece Development & Manufacturing Readiness
Oversee first-piece development, prototype machining, process prove-out, and validation before regular production.
Ensure that process documentation, setup requirements, tooling, fixtures, and inspection requirements are established before production release.
Coordinate with Production and Quality teams to resolve technical issues and ensure components meet drawing specifications.
Establish repeatable and reliable manufacturing processes for new and existing components.
5. Production Planning & Machine Utilization
Initially oversee production planning, machine loading, and allocation of machining resources in coordination with the Production team.
Monitor machine utilization, cycle times, process efficiency, and production bottlenecks.
Optimize production sequences and resource allocation to improve throughput and delivery adherence.
Identify opportunities for reducing setup time, machining time, and non-value-added activities.
Support the development of scalable manufacturing systems as business volumes increase.
6. Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with Production, Quality, Purchase, and Stores to ensure the availability of materials, tooling, fixtures, and other manufacturing requirements.
Coordinate with Quality to address non-conformities, dimensional issues, process validation, and inspection requirements.
Collaborate with Purchase and Stores teams on tooling procurement, technical specifications, and inventory requirements.
Ensure timely closure of engineering-related issues affecting production, quality, or customer delivery.
7. Team Leadership & Technical Development
Lead, mentor, and guide the CAD/CAM and Process Engineering team.
Review engineering outputs, process plans, machining strategies, and technical documentation.
Establish standard operating procedures, process documentation, and best practices across manufacturing engineering activities.
Build technical capabilities within the team through training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Monitor team performance and ensure timely completion of engineering deliverables.
8. Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimization
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, cost reduction, quality enhancement, and process standardization.
Analyze machining costs, cycle times, tooling consumption, and resource utilization to identify improvement opportunities.
Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve first-pass yield and reduce manufacturing losses.
Contribute to capacity planning and manufacturing capability development in line with business growth.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong expertise in precision CNC machining and manufacturing engineering.
Experience with multi-axis machining, including 5-axis CNC and higher-axis machining configurations.
Sound knowledge of CAD/CAM, process planning, GD&T, datum selection, tooling, fixtures, and work-holding systems.
Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and assess manufacturing feasibility.
Experience in cycle-time estimation, machine loading, manufacturing costing, and process optimization.
Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving capabilities.
Experience in first-piece development, prototype machining, and production process validation.
Strong leadership, team management, and cross-functional coordination skills.
Knowledge of quality systems, process documentation, and continuous improvement
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on manufacturing engineering leader with deep expertise in precision CNC machining, process development, and multi-axis manufacturing. The individual should be capable of translating complex engineering requirements into efficient, cost-effective, and repeatable manufacturing processes while leading the technical team and coordinating cross-functionally to achieve quality, productivity, and delivery objectives.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
· 10–15+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, precision machining, or CNC manufacturing.
· Prior experience managing technical teams and leading manufacturing process development is essential.
· Experience with complex precision components, multi-axis CNC machining, aerospace, defence, automotive, or industrial engineering applications will be preferred.
· Experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment will be an added advantage.
What We Offer:
· Salary is negotiable for the right candidate.
· Opportunity to build and lead a high-impact vertical from the ground up.
· Access to captive, advanced engineering capabilities — not just vendor coordination.
· Opportunities for professional development and growth.
· A collaborative and innovative work environment.
Equal Opportunity Employer:
Magma is an equal-opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
