1. About The India Prosperity Initiative (TIPI)
The India Prosperity Initiative (TIPI) is an objective and non-partisan initiative committed to advancing pervasive prosperity across Indian society. TIPI views prosperity as extending beyond material abundance to encompass the resources, opportunities, capabilities, and societal conditions that enable individuals and communities to realise their potential.
TIPI seeks to deepen the understanding of prosperity in India through rigorous, multidisciplinary, and evidence-based research, using data and insights from diverse sources. It emphasises intellectual rigour, audacity of ideas and methods, collaboration, and trust.
The Initiative aims to generate actionable insights, evaluate solutions, and translate evidence into meaningful action on issues shaping India’s long-term prosperity.
2. About the Role
You will join The India Prosperity Initiative as a Product & Technology Intern, working at the intersection of technology, data, research, and product development. The role will involve building, enhancing, and maintaining digital products that enable TIPI to analyse complex issues and translate research into accessible and actionable tools.
You will work closely with researchers, data scientists, and other team members to understand requirements, develop technical solutions, improve product functionality, and ensure the quality and reliability of digital products. Current products include Nowcasting, a GDP nowcasting tool; the Comparative State Index, a dashboard for comparing states across key indicators; and the Talent Pool Assessment Dashboard, a sports analytics platform supporting the assessment of Indian athletes and Olympic performance.
● Product Development and Engineering: You will contribute to the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of web applications, dashboards, and other digital products. You will translate product requirements into functional and scalable technical solutions.
● Application and Interface Development: You will develop intuitive and responsive interfaces and contribute to frontend and backend components of digital products. You will work on features, workflows, and interfaces that make complex data and analysis accessible to users.
● Data and Backend Integration: You will work with datasets, databases, APIs, and other data systems to integrate data into digital products. You will support the development and integration of reliable data pipelines and interfaces that enable products to retrieve and display analytical outputs.
● Product Quality and Performance: You will test features, identify bugs and technical issues, and support their resolution. You will contribute to improving application performance, reliability, usability, and adherence to product specifications.
● Product Thinking and User Experience: You will work with research and product teams to understand user needs and translate them into effective product features. You will contribute to user journeys, feature requirements, product testing, and iterative improvements based on feedback and usage.
● Technology Exploration and Problem Solving: You will explore new technologies, tools, frameworks, and development approaches that can strengthen TIPI's products. You will be expected to approach technical and product challenges through structured problem-solving and develop practical solutions.
This role is well-suited for a student or early-career candidate with a strong interest in technology, software development, data, and product building. 4. Eligibility Criteria
● Pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or another relevant discipline.
● Strong academic record and sound understanding of programming fundamentals and Data Structures and Algorithms.
● Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, or a similar language.
● Familiarity with web development frameworks such as React.js, Node.js, or equivalent technologies will be an advantage.
● Familiarity with SQL, databases, APIs, data structures, and data integration will be an advantage. ● Experience through academic, personal, open-source, or professional projects involving software development, dashboards, data products, or applications will be an advantage.
● Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex technical and product challenges systematically.
● Genuine interest in technology, data, and building products to solve real-world problems.
● Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical team members.
● Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn new technologies and approaches.
5. Role location
This is a full-time, in-office internship based in Gurugram, Haryana. The role may involve travel for project activities, institutional engagements, meetings, and other initiatives as required.
