About TOCH
TOCH is a cross-platform encrypted chat application built with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP), targeting Android, iOS, and Desktop. We use the Signal Protocol for end-to-end encryption, WebSocket-based real-time messaging, WebRTC calls, and a Go microservices backend. Quality is non-negotiable — you'll be the gatekeeper for features that millions of users trust with their private conversations.
Role Overview
We're looking for a QA Engineer with 1–2 years of hands-on experience in manual and API testing. You'll own the quality of our chat, calling, encryption, and media features across Android, iOS, and Desktop platforms. You'll work closely with KMP developers, backend engineers, and product to ensure every release is rock-solid.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Design, write, and execute test cases for new features and regression suites across Android, iOS, and Desktop builds
✅ Perform thorough API testing of our Go backend REST endpoints and WebSocket events using tools like Postman, Insomnia, or cURL
✅ Validate end-to-end encrypted messaging flows (1:1 and group chats), ensuring message delivery, ordering, and decryption correctness
✅ Test real-time features: WebSocket sync, live location sharing, scheduled messages, and push notifications
✅ Test WebRTC-based 1:1 and group calls (audio/video quality, connection reliability, call handoff scenarios)
✅ Verify offline-first behavior: message queuing, sync on reconnect, and database consistency
✅ Test in-app purchases and subscription flows (RevenueCat integration, plan upgrades, expiry handling)
✅ File detailed bug reports with reproduction steps, logs, and device info; track them through resolution
✅ Participate in sprint planning and provide effort estimates for QA activities
✅ Collaborate with developers on testability improvements and edge-case identification
Must-Have Skills
🔹 1–2 years of experience in manual testing of mobile applications (Android and/or iOS)
🔹 Hands-on experience with API testing tools (Postman, Insomnia, Swagger, or equivalent)
🔹 Solid understanding of REST APIs, HTTP methods, status codes, request/response payloads, and authentication headers
🔹 Experience testing WebSocket-based real-time features
🔹 Familiarity with bug-tracking tools (Jira, Linear, or similar)
🔹 Understanding of the mobile app lifecycle, permissions, and platform-specific behaviors
🔹 Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
🔹 Clear written communication for bug reports and test documentation
Good-to-Have Skills
➕ Experience testing chat or messaging applications
➕ Familiarity with end-to-end encryption concepts (Signal Protocol, key exchange)
➕ Exposure to Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) or cross-platform app architectures
➕ Basic knowledge of SQL/SQLite for verifying local database state
➕ Experience with Charles Proxy, mitmproxy, or similar network debugging tools
➕ Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and build artifact testing
➕ Basic scripting skills (Python, Shell) for test data setup or log analysis
