Systems Administrator (Azure Cloud & Infrastructure)

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Systems Administrator with strong expertise in Microsoft Azure, Windows, Linux, virtualization, automation, and enterprise infrastructure operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the administration, monitoring, maintenance, security, and continuous improvement of mission-critical cloud and on-premises environments. This role supports 24x7 production systems and requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting, performance optimization, security compliance, disaster recovery, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, maintain, and support Azure cloud infrastructure and associated services.
Manage and optimize Azure technologies including Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Key Vault, Front Door, Traffic Manager, DNS, Identity Services, Network Watcher, GitHub, Jenkins, and Terraform.
Provide advanced administration and support for Windows Server, Windows Desktop, Red Hat Linux, and Oracle Linux operating systems.
Monitor application, server, and infrastructure performance to proactively identify and resolve issues before service impacts occur.
Troubleshoot complex application, database, server, network, and connectivity issues across distributed environments.
Install, configure, maintain, and support application and infrastructure components.
Review, evaluate, and implement cloud architecture improvements and infrastructure enhancements through established change management processes.
Develop innovative cloud-based solutions that improve infrastructure reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
Manage scheduled maintenance activities, software upgrades, patching, and system lifecycle management activities in accordance with service level agreements (SLAs).
Create and submit change control documentation for infrastructure and application maintenance activities.
Support high-availability environments utilizing VMware virtualization technologies.
Develop scripts and automation solutions using tools such as Python, Shell scripting, and other automation technologies.
Generate operational reports and SLA metrics to support contractual and service management requirements.
Create and maintain operational procedures, technical documentation, support runbooks, and operations manuals.
Collaborate with application, database, network, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure service reliability and performance.
Serve as a technical escalation point and subject matter expert for critical production incidents and performance-related issues.
Participate in on-call support and provide operational support for 24x7 production environments.
Security, Compliance & Disaster Recovery
Ensure compliance with State and Federal security policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Manage server access controls, identity management, security hardening, and centralized logging solutions.
Support vulnerability remediation efforts and address findings from penetration tests and security assessments.
Monitor and maintain infrastructure security controls, firewall rules, ACLs, NAT configurations, and network security policies.
Validate, maintain, and support disaster recovery plans and business continuity processes for all server and application environments.
Willingness to support on-prem contracts as they prepare to migrate to Cloud Infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of Azure administration experience.
5+ years of Windows and Linux/Unix systems administration experience.
Strong expertise in Windows Server, Red Hat Linux, and Oracle Linux administration.
Deep understanding of system security, maintenance, patching, and operational support best practices.
Strong knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, ACLs, NAT, routing, and network troubleshooting.
Experience with infrastructure automation and scripting using Python, Shell, Perl, or similar technologies.
Experience supporting enterprise-scale cloud and hybrid environments.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills across infrastructure, applications, databases, and networking.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience supporting service level agreements (SLAs) and operational reporting requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with VMware administration and high-availability virtualized environments.
Experience with SharePoint administration and support.
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps practices.
Experience supporting government-regulated or highly compliant environments.
Knowledge of disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and cloud modernization initiatives.
