The Opportunity
We're looking for a dependable Austin-area professional to support residential site assessments and project walkthroughs on an as-needed basis.
You'll be RyzaLab's local presence at customer properties, helping document existing conditions, review plans, and coordinate discussions with homeowners, general contractors, architects, and other trades.
RyzaLab leads the technical design and recommendations remotely. Your role is to provide accurate site information, recognize practical constraints, ask useful questions, and ensure findings and decisions are documented.
This is a paid, project-based opportunity with initially irregular assignments. There is potential for more frequent work and expanded responsibilities as RyzaLab grows, but no guaranteed minimum hours or projects.
Responsibilities
Conduct residential walkthroughs to document existing conditions, technology infrastructure, and customer requirements.
Read and annotate residential floor plans, recording dimensions, equipment locations, available pathways, and relevant site constraints.
Capture organized photographs, measurements, observations, and follow-up questions.
Participate in site discussions with homeowners, contractors, and design professionals, including remote coordination with RyzaLab.
Deliver concise site reports and flag unresolved issues requiring technical review.
Required Qualifications
Practical experience in residential construction, architecture, engineering technology, low-voltage systems, AV integration, home inspection, or related site work.
Ability to read basic residential plans and accurately document site conditions.
Professional communication skills and confidence in interacting with homeowners and contractors.
Strong attention to detail, reliability, and respect for customer property and confidential information.
Ability to travel to customer properties throughout the Austin area and complete agreed assignments independently.
Experience with smart-home technology, Home Assistant, networking, or construction coordination is an advantage, but not required.
A professional engineering or architecture license is not required. Regulated engineering, electrical, and construction work remains the responsibility of appropriately qualified professionals.
Compensation and Availability
Proposed starting compensation: $100–$125 per standard local site visit, including preparation, approximately 1-2 hours on-site, and concise documentation. Scope, travel requirements, and the final fee are agreed upon before each assignment. More extensive assignments are priced separately.
This is an occasional, project-based contract opportunity, not a full-time position. Candidates should be comfortable accepting individual assignments without a guaranteed work schedule.
