Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced CAD Designer / P&ID Designer to support pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing engineering projects. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience developing, modifying, and maintaining Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD in GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
This role will support pharmaceutical facility projects, equipment installations, process modifications, clean utility systems, and engineering documentation updates.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, modify, and maintain P&IDs using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
Create and update engineering drawings for pharmaceutical process equipment, piping systems, manufacturing utilities, and facility projects.
Prepare P&IDs for bioreactors, mixing vessels, CIP/SIP skids, buffer and media preparation systems, filtration, chromatography, and process transfer systems.
Update clean utility drawings covering Purified Water (PW), Water for Injection (WFI), clean steam, compressed air, nitrogen, and other utilities.
Incorporate engineering markups, redlines, field modifications, and equipment changes into existing drawings.
Coordinate with Process Engineering, Automation, CQV, and Facilities Engineering teams to maintain accurate engineering documentation.
Maintain equipment tags, line numbers, instrument identification, drawing revisions, and as-built documentation.
Review vendor drawings and equipment packages to identify discrepancies and implement necessary updates.
Ensure drawings comply with applicable engineering standards, site drafting practices, and GMP documentation requirements.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of CAD drafting/design experience, including significant hands-on P&ID development and modification.
Required experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or GMP-regulated manufacturing projects.
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D or AutoCAD P&ID is preferred.
Understanding of pharmaceutical process equipment, process piping, instrumentation, and manufacturing utilities.
Ability to interpret P&IDs, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), equipment layouts, and piping specifications.
Experience with engineering redlines, drawing revisions, document control, and as-built drawings.
Familiarity with P&ID symbols, equipment tagging, instrument identification, and drafting standards.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting major pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies such as Amgen, Genentech, Regeneron, Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, or similar organizations.
Exposure to upstream and downstream biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
Knowledge of ISA 5.1 instrumentation symbols and P&ID standards.
Experience with pharmaceutical facility expansions, capital projects, commissioning, and qualification activities.
Familiarity with Autodesk Vault, Bluebeam, or other engineering document management tools.
