Position Overview
PuppySpot is seeking a hands-on sales leader to own breeder acquisition and lead the Breeder Acquisition team. This role owns the growth of our breeder network as a revenue function: the acquisition and activation targets, the pipeline, the forecast, and the performance of the team that delivers them.
The ideal candidate is a proven sales leader who has personally carried and hit acquisition targets and has built teams that do the same. This is a Senior Manager role for someone who wants to own and build a revenue function. They will balance day-to-day execution with longer-term strategy, set clear priorities, hold the team accountable, improve processes, and partner cross-functionally to build a more efficient and scalable breeder acquisition engine. The role also owns breeder insights: what breeders want, where they push back, and why they choose competitors, brought back to the business as clear themes the rest of the company can act on.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Ownership and Forecasting
Deliver net-new breeder acquisition and activation targets against defined supply needs by breed, price point, geography, and breeder profile.
Build and maintain a defined acquisition pipeline: stages, conversion rates by stage, and capacity math from lead to activated breeder
Forecast weekly against acquisition targets, proactively identifying performance gaps, risks, and recovery actions, and clearly communicating the outlook to the VP of Sales and senior leadership.
Manage by funnel data, not anecdotes: know where breeders stall, why they fall out, and what moves the number
Team Leadership
Lead, coach, and develop the Breeder acquisition team
Establish clear goals, priorities, quotas, and performance expectations
Coach at the rep level: call reviews, deal coaching, and structured ramp plans that bring new hires to productivity targets quickly
Monitor performance, address gaps directly, and build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, including managing out sustained underperformance
Shape incentive design: partner with the VP of Sales & Finance on quota setting, commission structures, spiffs, and territory or breed assignment
Recruit, interview, and onboard new reps as the team grows, and assess team structure, capacity, and responsibilities as the business evolves
Breeder Acquisition and Performance
Own execution against breeder acquisition, onboarding, and activation targets, holding the team accountable to defined metrics and results
Build the outbound motion: sourcing channels, target lists, prospecting cadences, objection handling, and win-back campaigns for inactive or lapsed breeders
Get in the deals: join calls with high-value prospects, unstick stalled negotiations, and personally close where it matters
Get out into the field: visit breeder operations, attend the shows, conferences, and club events where breeders gather, and build a real network in the space (travel required)
Partner with Marketing on inbound breeder lead flow and give clear, data-backed feedback on lead quality, volume, and source performance
Improve lead conversion, application completion, onboarding speed, and time to first listing
Define and own the handoff to Account Management so newly signed breeders activate and do not stall
Ensure the team effectively prioritizes its pipeline and works the highest-value opportunities first
Protect the standard: growth targets never override breeder quality and compliance requirements
Breeder Insights
Serve as the voice of the breeder inside PuppySpot: synthesize what breeders are asking for, objecting to, and choosing competitors over into clear themes and actionable insights for cross-functional teams
Track the competitor offers, terms, and pain points breeders raise most often, and flag where PuppySpot is winning or losing them
Deliver a regular breeder insights readout to senior leadership and partner teams (Portfolio, Marketing, Product, Breeder Compliance, and Customer Experience), with clear recommendations on what to change
Strategy and Process Improvement
Proactively identify operational gaps and opportunities to improve productivity and acquisition outcomes
Build scalable processes, workflows, reporting, tools, and playbooks, including a documented breeder sales playbook with talk tracks, qualification criteria, and a written profile of what a great breeder partner looks like
Use data to manage performance, identify opportunities, and measure results, building your own reports in HubSpot rather than waiting for them
Lead the adoption of new processes and ensure consistent execution across the team
Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner closely with Sales Operations, Portfolio Management, Account Management, Marketing, Analytics, Breeder Compliance, Product, and Customer Experience
Serve as a thought partner to the Portfolio function, translating marketplace needs into clear acquisition priorities by breed, region, and breeder profile
Represent breeder acquisition in cross-functional planning and operating meetings
Communicate progress, risks, performance, and recommendations to senior leadership
How Success Is Measured
Net-new breeders activated against target, including achievement of priority supply needs by breed, price point, geography, and breeder profile

Acquisition funnel conversion by stage, with quarter-over-quarter improvement
Breeder acquisition productivity and cost efficiency
Forecast accuracy
Rep-level quota attainment and new-hire ramp time
Quality of breeders acquired, measured against the Breeder Scorecard
Qualifications
Experience leading Sales, Partner Acquisition, or a similar quota-carrying function
Track record of personally carrying and hitting acquisition or revenue targets before leading teams that did the same
Demonstrated success managing quota-carrying teams and holding individuals accountable to measurable goals
Experience building or rebuilding an outbound motion, not just running one someone else built
Proven ability to coach, develop, and motivate team members while building a strong pipeline of future leaders
Strong pipeline discipline and forecasting skills; comfortable managing by funnel math and reporting a weekly forecast
Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate priorities into practical action plans
Experience improving sales, onboarding, or partner lifecycle processes
Strong analytical, organizational, and cross-functional leadership skills
Highly proactive, action-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment

Willing to travel for breeder visits, shows, and industry events
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within a marketplace, e-commerce, supplier network, or partner-based business
Experience selling to and building trust with small business owners or independent operators
Experience designing or administering sales compensation plans and incentive programs
Hands-on HubSpot experience, including building sequences, workflows, and reports
Experience in pet, agriculture, or another regulated or trust-sensitive category
