Job Description
As a Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer, you will own the software design and development of major components of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. You should be a curious problem solver, a distributed systems generalist, and a hands-on software developer with exposure to Linux, systems fundamentals, and systems troubleshooting. You should be eager to explore different parts of the stack, understand low-level system behavior, and design and build scalable distributed services. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.
This role resides within the Compute Bare Metal Provisioning team, which owns the critical infrastructure responsible for automating the full server lifecycle—from new platform and shape creation across AMD, Intel, Arm, and NVIDIA hardware to hardware bring-up, customer-ready instance provisioning, and firmware management. Our services operate at the intersection of bare metal hardware and full-stack orchestration frameworks, bringing together distributed systems development, Linux, and firmware integration. The team interfaces directly with components such as BMCs, NICs, SmartNICs, ILOMs, GPUs, and custom firmware stacks.
You will write code, design services, and build tooling that provisions, configures, secures, and validates server platforms across OCI’s massive fleet of Compute and GPU infrastructure. You will partner closely with teams across Compute, Networking, Security, Data Center Engineering, and Hardware Development to help OCI launch, scale, and maintain new server platforms with high reliability and minimal operational overhead. You will work directly with cutting-edge GPU hardware and see the impact of your work on the business.

Responsibilities
Y ou will own the software design and development of major components of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. You should be a strong, hands-on software developer, a driven problem solver, and a distributed systems generalist with exposure to Linux and systems fundamentals. You will design, develop, operate, and debug services across the stack, working with technologies such as Linux, Docker, Java web services, and Terraform to build reliable, scalable distributed infrastructure.
You should take initiative, identify opportunities for improvement, and deliver results wherever needed. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn. You will expand your skills in distributed systems, Linux, systems troubleshooting, and Compute and GPU infrastructure.
Qualifications:
3–8+ years of software development experience, including experience building or operating large-scale, highly available distributed systems.
Strong hands-on coding skills in an object-oriented language such as Java or C++, and experience with a scripting language such as Python.
Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems fundamentals.
Exposure to Linux, operating systems concepts, and systems troubleshooting, with a willingness to deepen these skills.
Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
Working familiarity with networking protocols such as TCP/IP and HTTP, and standard network architectures.
Understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage, and distributed persistence technologies.
Comfortable using AI agents and prompt engineering to support software development, code analysis, and debugging.
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with an interest in developing expertise in performance tuning.
A demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, take ownership, and collaborate across teams.
Experience building multi-tenant or virtualized infrastructure is a strong plus.
