Junior Recruiter

Vertex is accepting applications for a Junior Recruiter to join our HR team at our Sherwood Park office.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to begin a career in recruitment and learn the full recruitment cycle. You’ll work alongside a collaborative team of HR professionals who are happy to train, share their knowledge, and help you build your skills.
The day-to-day work follows a consistent recruitment process: reaching out to candidates, following up, conducting screens, and recording clear, accurate notes. Most candidate outreach and conversations happen by phone, often with people you haven’t spoken with before. You’ll need to feel comfortable initiating calls, speaking confidently with new people, and picking up the phone throughout the day. Depending on the role and stage of the process, you may also meet candidates through Microsoft Teams or in person.
While the core work is consistent, the positions you recruit for will vary across Vertex. You’ll learn about different roles, the skills they require, and the people our business needs.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch

What You’ll Bring
An interest in building a career in recruitment and a willingness to learn
Recruitment or HR education is an asset
Comfort making calls, reaching out to candidates, and starting conversations
Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
The ability to listen and build rapport while recording clear, accurate recruitment notes
Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, follow-ups, and competing priorities
A self-motivated approach and the ability to stay engaged in a fast-paced, phone-focused environment
Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
Knowledge of recruitment practices and employment legislation, or an eagerness to develop that knowledge
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities
Support the full recruitment cycle, from sourcing candidates through hiring and onboarding
Research and develop effective sourcing strategies to attract talent
Work with managers to prepare job advertisements and recruitment plans
Create screening questions and interview guides based on the needs of each role
Make candidate outreach calls and conduct screening calls and interviews
Record accurate screening and recruitment notes
Use social media and other tools to identify and attract candidates
Build and maintain talent pools
Participate in recruitment fairs and other hiring events
Build positive working relationships with candidates, employees, managers, and external partners
Support employee onboarding, offboarding, and general HR administration
Gather and review recruitment data and HR metrics to identify opportunities for improvement
Help ensure recruitment practices meet applicable employment requirements and Vertex standards
