Role Description This is a Remote Creative Writer / Story Writer role. The Creative Writer will develop original, context-rich stories that reflect the realities of young people navigating stress, burnout, and life transitions in Africa. Day-to-day tasks include researching lived experiences, interviewing community members, and crafting narratives for digital platforms that are empathetic, accurate, and culturally grounded. The role involves writing and editing content for HAVEN’s storytelling products, contributing to scripts for video or audio formats, and collaborating with product, clinical, and community teams to ensure stories align with HAVEN’s mental health and wellbeing goals. The Creative Writer will also help refine HAVEN’s tone of voice, generate content ideas, and respond to emerging themes from the Ask Haven platform.
Qualifications
Strong Writing and Creative Writing skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging, and emotionally resonant stories.
Proficiency in Web Content Writing, including adapting stories for blogs, social media, and other digital formats.
Effective Communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and engage sensitively with diverse audiences.
Solid Research skills to gather, verify, and synthesize lived experiences and mental health-related topics.
Demonstrated understanding of youth culture and contemporary issues affecting young people in Nigeria and across Africa.
Ability to write in a gender-neutral, non-judgmental, and trauma-informed manner that prioritizes user safety and dignity.
Experience in storytelling, journalism, creative writing, or related fields; prior work on social impact or mental health topics is an advantage.
Certifications in Literature, Psychology, Communications, Journalism, or a related discipline is beneficial, but equivalent experience is also considered.
Domain expertise and unique skills is an advantage (Research, Humor etc)
