About Enduring Ventures
Enduring Ventures is a permanent-capital holding company modeled after Berkshire Hathaway. We buy businesses and hold them. Most of what we\x27ve bought came through carve-outs, divestitures, or special situations, and we have no plan to sell any of it.
We own more than twenty operating companies across software, industrials, consumer, services, insurance, real estate, and hospitality. Most are in the US. Several are in Southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and Europe. Most of them are small businesses with small finance teams, and that is by design.
Why This Role Exists
Over the last two years the portfolio has roughly doubled. The finance function hasn\x27t. Today it runs through a Director of Finance and a controller with an outsourced accounting team, and that setup is at its limit.
Here\x27s what works. The majority of the US entities report monthly on the same one-page template, with the story behind the numbers written by the people running the business. Cash balances are reported weekly. The tax work is handled well by an outside firm. The operating companies mostly close their own books on time.
Here\x27s what doesn\x27t. Consolidation happens quarterly because it\x27s a heavy lift across twenty-plus companies on different systems with different charts of accounts, and when it\x27s done there\x27s no commentary on it. The 13-week cash forecasting is good where we need it most, but it\x27s local to those entities; there\x27s no cash view of the whole portfolio. International entities aren\x27t yet reporting to the same standard. And the deals we\x27re working on now are larger, more often cross-border, and more often distressed than the ones we\x27ve done before.
We\x27re hiring a CFO to fix those things and to own the finance function as the portfolio keeps growing.
What You\x27ll Do
• Own consolidated financials for the holding company and get consolidation to a monthly cadence with real commentary attached.
• Keep the monthly reporting standard across every operating company, including the international ones, and improve it where it\x27s weak.
• Own cash and treasury across the holding company structure: payment approvals, intercompany cash movements, and where cash sits. Build a portfolio-wide cash forecast on top of the entity-level 13-week work that already exists.
• Own lender relationships at the operating companies that have them: covenant compliance, reporting packages, borrowing base certificates, and refinancings.
• Sit on the investment committee with a vote. Pressure-test the financials on every deal, push for terms that reflect the real condition of the target, and stand up finance inside a newly acquired business after close.
• Oversee tax and intercompany structure across jurisdictions, working with the outside tax firm and in-country advisors.
• Run the finance bench. The controller reports to you. You decide how to cover the CFO-level work at operating companies that need it, whether by hiring or by taking it on yourself.
• Work directly with operating company CEOs when a business is in a tight spot. Help them get to stable ground.
What The First Year Looks Like
Day 90. You\x27ve taken over payment approvals, intercompany cash movements, and treasury balances across the holding company structure. You\x27ve been through the books of every operating company and know who keeps them, on what system, how clean they are, and where the problems are. You\x27ve told us which entities you can\x27t yet rely on. You\x27ve decided how to cover the CFO-level work at the operating companies that need it, and that plan is in motion.
Month 6. Consolidation is monthly, with commentary. The international companies are reporting on the same standard as the US ones, or you\x27ve told us exactly why they can\x27t yet and when they will. A portfolio-wide cash forecast exists and we\x27re reading it. Every lender covenant, test date, and reporting deadline is on one calendar, and nothing has been missed. You\x27ve sat on the investment committee for at least one deal from first look to close.
Month 12. The monthly package shows the whole portfolio on one page, with your view of what happened and what we should do about it. The entities you flagged at day 90 are fixed or have a plan with an owner. The operating companies that lacked finance coverage have it, and it\x27s working without you in the middle of every decision.
Who We\x27re Looking For
You\x27ve led finance at a multinational, diversified holding company or group: separate businesses, separate books, multiple currencies, multiple tax jurisdictions.
You\x27ve managed through a distressed situation. You know what a tight cash position feels like, you\x27ve worked under a lender, and you helped the CEO get the business to a more stable place.
You\x27re hands-on. You\x27ll have the ability to grow the team, but this isn\x27t a seat where you farm out the work and manage from a distance. We see that pattern in too many of the distressed businesses we look at, and we don\x27t want it here.
You can build the models and the processes yourself, and you\x27re comfortable staying close to the detail.
You\x27re direct. If you think we\x27re about to make a bad decision, you say so before we make it, with numbers.
Fifteen or more years in finance, with meaningful time as a CFO or the number two to a strong one. We don\x27t care much about Big Four pedigree, public-company experience, or industry fit. Nobody has worked in all the industries we own.
Why Enduring Ventures
Permanent capital, so your work compounds instead of resetting each fund cycle. A real seat at the table, with a vote on what we buy. Equity in the holding company and participation in the deals you help underwrite and fix. And a finance function that\x27s yours to build.
Location and Compensation
Remote, US-based. Travel to operating companies as needed. Some of our businesses operate in time zones that will mean early or late calls.
Compensation: Base salary $325,000-$375,000, plus a bonus of 40% of base and 1% equity.
