Role Description The Director role is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Kolkata Area. The Director will provide strategic leadership for the institute, define research priorities, and ensure alignment with CSIR’s mission and national scientific and industrial objectives. Responsibilities include overseeing research programs, guiding technology development and innovation, and fostering collaborations with academia, industry, and government bodies. The Director will manage senior staff, allocate resources, monitor project performance, and uphold high standards of scientific integrity, safety, and compliance. The role also involves representing CGCRI at national and international forums, driving funding initiatives, and promoting a culture of inclusive, high-impact research.
Qualifications
Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in materials science, glass or ceramic technology, chemical engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline.
Extensive research experience with a strong publication record in glass, ceramics, optical materials, or related fields.
Proven leadership experience in a research, academic, or scientific institution, including managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects.
Demonstrated ability in strategic planning, research program development, and translating scientific outcomes into industrial or societal impact.
Experience in collaborating with industry partners, government agencies, and funding bodies, including securing and managing research grants.
Strong communication skills for engaging with stakeholders, presenting scientific and organizational priorities, and representing the institute in public and professional forums.
Commitment to ethical research practices, inclusive work environments, and mentorship of scientists, engineers, and technical staff.
Familiarity with national science and technology policies and the role of public research institutions in economic and social development.
