About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Bookkeeper / Accounting Manager
We are seeking a highly capable Accounting & Finance Manager to take ownership of day-to-day accounting and financial operations across multiple client businesses.
This is not a role for someone who needs constant direction. We are looking for someone who can be given a goal or problem, understand what needs to be done, figure out the appropriate next steps, and drive the task through completion.
The ideal candidate combines strong accounting fundamentals with excellent client communication skills and the ability to think strategically about cash flow, financial performance, and business operations.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for managing and supporting the day-to-day financial operations of our clients, including:
Accounts payable and vendor management
Accounts receivable, invoicing, and collections
Payroll processing and payroll-related accounting
Bank and credit card reconciliations
Month-end close and general ledger review
Cash flow and cash management
Reviewing financial statements and identifying issues or unusual activity
Managing client accounting questions and resolving problems
Coordinating with banks, payroll providers, vendors, accountants, and other third parties
Helping clients understand their financial position and upcoming cash needs
Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting
Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Assisting with other accounting and finance projects as needed
Client Communication
A major part of this role is communicating directly with clients.
You must be comfortable:
Speaking with business owners and executives
Explaining accounting and financial issues in clear, simple language
Following up with clients to obtain information and keep projects moving
Handling difficult or time-sensitive financial situations professionally
Writing clear, professional emails
Building trust with clients and becoming someone they can rely on for day-to-day financial matters
Strong communication skills are just as important as technical accounting ability for this position.
Independence & Problem Solving
We are specifically looking for someone who is highly resourceful and can operate with limited supervision.
You should be comfortable receiving a task such as:
"Figure out why the bank reconciliation is off."
"Determine whether we have enough cash to make payroll."
"Find out why a customer hasn't paid."
"Figure out how this transaction should be recorded."
—and independently investigating the issue, determining the appropriate solution, and completing the task.
We value people who take ownership, ask thoughtful questions when necessary, and solve problems rather than waiting for step-by-step instructions.
Financial & Strategic Thinking
This role goes beyond bookkeeping.
We want someone who can look at a company's financial information and think about questions such as:
Where is the company's cash going?
Will the company have enough liquidity over the next several weeks?
Why did profitability change?
Are customers paying slowly?
Are expenses increasing faster than revenue?
Is the business carrying too much inventory or working capital?
What financial risks should the owner be aware of?
What could management do to improve cash flow or profitability?
You do not need to be a CFO, but you should have the ability and curiosity to understand the business behind the numbers.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have:
3+ years of accounting, finance, controller, or similar experience
Strong knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable
Payroll experience
Experience with bank reconciliations and month-end accounting
Strong understanding of financial statements
Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
Strong Excel skills
Excellent written and verbal English communication
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to manage multiple companies, clients, or projects simultaneously
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Experience in financial analysis, cash-flow forecasting, FP&A, controller services, or CFO advisory is highly preferred.
Who Will Succeed in This Role
You will likely succeed here if you are someone who:
Takes ownership of problems
Doesn't need to be reminded repeatedly to complete tasks
Enjoys figuring things out
Communicates proactively
Understands both accounting and business
Can move between detailed accounting work and higher-level financial thinking
Is comfortable working directly with business owners
Wants responsibility and the opportunity to grow
This is an opportunity to become a key member of a growing financial services firm and work directly with business owners across multiple industries.
Why Join Us
We want to build a workplace for high-performing people who value autonomy, flexibility, responsibility, and meaningful career growth.
Fully Remote
This is a 100% remote position. You can work from wherever you are most productive without commuting to an office every day.
Flexible Hours — Results Matter More Than a Clock
We do not believe great professionals need to be micromanaged or tied to a rigid 9-to-5 schedule.
You will have significant flexibility in how you structure your day. Have an appointment in the afternoon? Prefer starting earlier or working later? That's completely fine.
What matters is that:
Your work gets completed accurately and on time
Clients receive excellent service and timely responses
You are available for important meetings and client needs
You take ownership of your responsibilities
This is still a full-time position with meaningful responsibility. There will be busy periods and days that require significant effort. Flexible scheduling should not be confused with reduced hours or a part-time workload.
We trust our team members to manage their time like professionals.
Strong Compensation Growth
Starting compensation is $60,000 per year.
We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the company rather than simply fill a position.
As you demonstrate that you can independently manage responsibilities, provide excellent client service, solve problems, and take ownership of client relationships, there is a clear path for compensation to grow significantly.
For someone who proves they can operate at a high level, we see the opportunity for compensation to grow toward $100,000 per year as their responsibilities and impact increase.
Real Responsibility & Career Growth
You will not be stuck performing the same repetitive accounting tasks indefinitely.
As you prove yourself, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of client relationships, manage financial operations, participate in higher-level financial decisions, and develop skills across accounting, finance, cash management, forecasting, and strategic advisory.
We want someone who can eventually become a trusted financial partner to our clients and an important part of our firm's growth.
Work Like an Owner
We give strong performers significant autonomy.
We are much more interested in what you accomplish than whether you were sitting at your desk at a specific time.
If you are someone who enjoys responsibility, likes solving problems, communicates proactively, and wants the freedom to manage your work without constant supervision, this environment can be a great fit.
