Business Development Manager - Education & Public Sector
Seed Ventures LLC · Remote (US) · Travel occasional · Full-time
Seed Ventures's DBA Safecastle sells emergency food and preparedness supplies, and organizations buy those in volume: companies, schools, agencies, healthcare, nonprofits.
You'll bring in new brand partners for the first, sell our own products into the second, and keep both sets of relationships healthy after the handshake.
We are hiring a business development leader to open K-12 school districts and similar institutional buyers for SafeCastle emergency preparedness products, moving us from inbound orders to a repeatable district pipeline.
About Seed Ventures
Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Redondo Beach, CA, Seed Ventures has generated more than [$100M] in cumulative retail sales across Amazon, Walmart, eBay, TikTok Shop, and 60+ channels. We operate roughly 70 SKUs across our own brands, Safecastle and Mountain Essentials, alongside a growing roster of brand partners.
We're bootstrapped. We grow on revenue, keep teams small, and make decisions for the long term.
The role
School districts are required to plan for emergencies. SafeCastle can supply an entire district:
You will be our first dedicated seller into this market. You will build the pipeline, win district-wide and multi-campus agreements, get SafeCastle onto cooperative purchasing contracts and approved-vendor lists, and shape the playbook the team scales after you.
What you'll do
Build and own the pipeline
Prospect and open K-12 public school districts, charter networks, private and parochial schools, county offices of education and community colleges
Extend into adjacent buyers with the same procurement pattern: municipalities, counties, emergency management agencies, healthcare systems and large employers
Map decision-makers in each account: safety and security directors, risk managers, facilities and operations, purchasing, business officials, superintendents and school boards
Run outbound across email, phone, LinkedIn and in-person visits, and convert inbound B2B leads quickly
Close district-scale business
Lead full-cycle sales from first meeting to purchase order, including needs assessments, kit design, pricing and proposals
Respond to RFPs, RFQs and bids; prepare vendor registrations, W-9s, insurance certificates and compliance documents
Win multi-campus and district-wide standing orders, and grow them into annual replenishment programs
Time deals to district budget cycles, fiscal year-end spend and grant funding (for example school safety and emergency preparedness grants)
Open the channels that scale
Secure SafeCastle placement on cooperative purchasing contracts (such as TIPS, BuyBoard, Sourcewell, OMNIA Partners) and state or regional approved-vendor lists
Build partnerships with school safety consultants, integrators, distributors and education resellers
Represent SafeCastle at education, school safety and emergency management conferences
Run it like a business
Keep the CRM current and forecast pipeline weekly
Protect margin on every deal, working with accounting on pricing and with operations on fulfillment
Feed buyer insight back into product: kit configurations, packaging, labeling and new SKUs
Who you are
5+ years of B2B sales or business development, with at least 3 years selling directly to K-12 school districts
A track record of closing district-level or multi-campus deals, with quota attainment you can show in numbers
Working knowledge of public-sector procurement: purchase orders, bids and RFPs, cooperative contracts, board approval and fiscal-year timing
An existing network of district buyers such as safety directors, business officials, facilities leaders or purchasing agents
A self-starter who can build a territory from zero, working remotely with a small, fast-moving team
Clear writer and confident presenter, from a one-page proposal to a school board meeting
Comfortable with a CRM, spreadsheets and LinkedIn Sales Navigator
Able to travel up to [25]% of the time
Nice to have
Experience selling school safety, emergency preparedness, security, facilities or health and nursing supplies to districts
Relationships with cooperative purchasing organizations or experience getting a vendor awarded on one
Familiarity with district safety planning, standard response protocols and state emergency-supply requirements
Experience in emergency management, municipal government or healthcare procurement
Background with a consumer product company scaling into institutional sales
Bilingual English and Spanish
Compensation
Base salary: 90,000 USD - 120,000 USD per Annum
Uncapped commission on sourced revenue, with on-target earnings
The final offer depends on experience and location.
