Overview
As a part of expanding our Engineering team, we are looking for Engineering manager/s who will be responsible for keeping projects on track, solving technical issues that arise, communicating with other teams and acting as an overall leader for the team. He / She will be working on multiple projects at the same time, building and managing diverse teams of engineers from different disciplines (in-house & outsourced).
To succeed, you need to possess a blend of strong leadership skills and technical depth in Payments. You will own the systems that move money between diners, restaurants and payment partners across multiple APAC markets, including payment acceptance, orchestration, settlement, reconciliation and merchant payouts.
This role is for someone who understands why idempotency matters, what happens when a PSP times out mid-capture, and how a one-cent reconciliation break turns into a finance escalation. You will lead a team of in-house and outsourced engineers, partner closely with Product, Finance, Risk and Compliance, and stay close enough to the code to make sound technical calls.
Key Responsibilities:
Payments Platform Ownership: Own the end-to-end payments stack including checkout, authorisation, capture, refunds, voids, chargebacks, settlement, and merchant payouts. Lead integrations, onboarding, and ecosystem management with PSPs, acquirers, and gateways such as Stripe, Adyen, and Airwallex, as well as local payment methods across APAC (e.g., PayNow, GrabPay, QRIS, PromptPay, GCash).
Orchestration & Reconciliation: Drive payment orchestration and smart routing across payment rails (Stripe, Adyen, Airwallex) to improve authorisation rates, reduce costs, and enable failover during outages. Own transaction-level reconciliation, analytics, and reporting across our ledger, gateway/PSP dashboards, reports, and bank statements.
Reliability, Security & Compliance: Set high bars for uptime and correctness with idempotent APIs, clear state machines, and auditable ledgers. Ensure PCI DSS compliance, tokenisation, secure data handling, and partner with Risk/Compliance on 3DS, SCA, and fraud controls. Track payment SLOs and lead incident response.
Delivery and Stakeholder Management: Work closely with Product, Design, QA, Finance, and Operations to sequence work by business value, refine stories, and communicate technical direction clearly to all stakeholders.
Team Leadership: Hire, onboard, coach, and grow in-house and outsourced engineering teams. Provide clear career development, set goals, and drive pragmatic agile execution to deliver value iteratively.
Hands-On Engineering: Stay close to the code, review pull requests, conduct technical design reviews, and debug production issues alongside the team when needed.
Desired Candidate Specification:
10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years as an Engineering Manager in a start-up or scale-up environment.
At least 4 years building or leading payment systems in production (PSP, fintech, marketplace, e-commerce, or food delivery).
Hands-on experience integrating with PSPs, acquirers, or local payment schemes, and deep understanding of money movement (ledgers, idempotency, reconciliation).
Practical knowledge of PCI DSS, tokenisation, and security/compliance best practices.
Proven track record of building and leading hybrid engineering teams (in-house and outsourced).
Strong tech stack knowledge: Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, JavaScript, HTML, MySQL, MongoDB, AWS/GCP, and event-driven microservices architecture.
