The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior GIS Specialist to lead geographic information systems activities, develop spatial data solutions, and provide geospatial analysis and mapping support for construction, engineering, infrastructure, and property-related projects. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in GIS software, spatial databases, cartographic design, remote sensing, geospatial data integration, and spatial analysis.
This role will focus on managing geospatial datasets, producing accurate maps and spatial reports, supporting site assessments, coordinating geographic data collection, and developing GIS workflows that improve project planning and execution. The Senior GIS Specialist will collaborate with Engineering, Construction, Surveying, Design, Environmental, Project Management, IT, and external consultants to deliver reliable geospatial information and support compliance with applicable United Arab Emirates laws, regulations, and project standards.
Key Responsibilities
Lead GIS activities supporting construction projects, infrastructure development, engineering operations, and asset management.
Develop, maintain, and manage geographic information systems, spatial databases, and geospatial data repositories.
Collect, process, validate, and integrate geospatial information from surveys, engineering drawings, satellite imagery, GPS devices, drones, and other approved sources.
Produce accurate digital maps, thematic maps, site plans, location maps, and spatial analysis outputs.
Perform advanced spatial analysis to support site selection, route planning, land assessment, infrastructure design, and project feasibility studies.
Develop GIS workflows that support project planning, construction monitoring, land development, and operational decision-making.
Manage spatial data layers representing land parcels, roads, utilities, buildings, boundaries, terrain, environmental constraints, and project assets.
Maintain geospatial datasets in accordance with established data standards, coordinate systems, metadata requirements, and quality procedures.
Verify the positional accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability of spatial datasets.
Conduct coordinate system transformations, georeferencing, spatial alignment, and projection management.
Interpret engineering drawings, survey plans, cadastral information, topographic maps, and geographic reference materials.
Convert CAD drawings, BIM-related information, survey records, and other technical files into appropriate GIS formats.
Integrate GIS datasets with engineering, asset management, project management, and enterprise information systems.
Collaborate with surveyors and engineering teams to validate site boundaries, ground conditions, infrastructure locations, and survey outputs.
Support site feasibility assessments by analyzing terrain, access routes, land-use restrictions, utility availability, and surrounding infrastructure.
Develop spatial models to assess site suitability, construction access, transportation connectivity, and infrastructure requirements.
Analyze topographic and elevation data to support grading studies, drainage planning, earthworks, and preliminary engineering assessments.
Produce terrain models, elevation profiles, contour maps, slope analyses, and other geospatial outputs as required.
Support utility mapping and infrastructure coordination by maintaining spatial records of underground and above-ground assets.
Identify potential spatial conflicts between proposed construction activities, existing utilities, property boundaries, and environmental constraints.
Assist engineering teams in evaluating alternative layouts, access arrangements, and infrastructure corridors.
Develop GIS-based solutions for tracking construction progress, project locations, work zones, and site conditions.
Create spatial dashboards and interactive maps that communicate project status, asset distribution, and operational performance.
Develop web-based GIS applications and map services to improve access to approved geospatial information.
Configure GIS layers, map symbology, labeling, filters, and data visualization settings for different stakeholder requirements.
Design clear and professional cartographic outputs for technical reports, executive presentations, project submissions, and client deliverables.
Apply appropriate cartographic principles to ensure maps are accurate, readable, consistent, and fit for purpose.
Conduct spatial statistics and geospatial modeling to identify patterns, relationships, risks, and operational opportunities.
Perform network analysis for transportation planning, site accessibility, logistics routing, and infrastructure connectivity.
Use remote sensing and satellite imagery to assess land-cover changes, site conditions, construction progress, and surrounding development.
Process aerial imagery and approved drone-derived datasets for mapping, measurement, and project monitoring.
Support environmental and land-use assessments through spatial analysis of protected areas, terrain features, drainage systems, and relevant constraints.
Develop GIS-based risk maps to highlight flood exposure, access limitations, environmental sensitivities, and other geographically defined project risks.
Support emergency planning and HSE activities by preparing site location maps, access plans, hazard maps, and emergency response mapping.
Maintain geospatial records for project sites, facilities, buildings, equipment, and infrastructure assets.
Coordinate with asset management teams to establish consistent location identifiers and spatial asset registers.
Support the integration of GIS with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and digital engineering environments where applicable.
Assist in developing digital twin capabilities by integrating spatial information with asset, infrastructure, and project data.
Evaluate opportunities to use GIS technologies to improve field data collection, reporting, and construction coordination.
Develop and maintain automated geospatial processing workflows using tools such as Python, SQL, ModelBuilder, or equivalent technologies.
Create scripts and reusable tools to automate data conversion, validation, geoprocessing, map production, and recurring reporting tasks.
Optimize GIS processes to improve performance, reduce manual work, and maintain consistent analytical outputs.
Manage spatial databases and geospatial services using appropriate database technologies, including enterprise geodatabase environments where applicable.
Apply SQL-based queries and spatial functions to retrieve, analyze, update, and validate geospatial information.
Configure and maintain GIS data services, feature services, map services, and related application integrations as required.
Support GIS platform administration, data publishing, user access management, and system configuration in coordination with IT.
Maintain compatibility between GIS platforms, data formats, enterprise applications, and project information systems.
Evaluate new GIS tools, extensions, analytical methods, and geospatial technologies for potential operational benefits.
Establish and maintain GIS data standards, naming conventions, metadata requirements, and documentation procedures.
Develop quality assurance and quality control procedures for spatial data collection, processing, analysis, and delivery.
Conduct routine data audits to identify duplicate records, missing attributes, geometric errors, and inconsistent spatial references.
Resolve GIS data issues and coordinate corrective actions with data owners, survey teams, engineers, and external consultants.
