About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Location: Ghana
Engagement: Equity based founding role
Compensation: Up to 15% equity in the Ghana arm of HemoExchange, subject to agreed milestones, vesting and continued active contribution.
Open to: Medical Laboratory Scientists / Biomedical Scientists specialising in Haematology, and medically qualified Haematologists
HemoExchange.com is building an Africa first telehaematology referral platform designed to connect laboratories with verified haematology experts for remote peripheral blood film morphology review, specialist second opinions and expert reporting.
Ghana has been selected as the first African pilot market, and we are looking for a highly motivated Ghana Validation Partner to help lead the clinical and commercial validation of the platform locally.
This is not a conventional salaried role. It is an opportunity to join HemoExchange at an early stage and take meaningful ownership of the Ghana launch. The successful partner will receive 15% equity in the Ghana arm of the HemoExchange project, subject to an appropriate vesting and partnership agreement.
The opportunity
The Ghana Validation Partner will work closely with the HemoExchange founder to test whether the platform solves a meaningful problem for Ghanaian diagnostic laboratories and haematology professionals.
The role will involve helping us establish the first network of participating laboratories and expert reviewers, validate the clinical workflow, gather structured feedback, identify regulatory and operational requirements, and help shape the model before wider commercial rollout.
You will have the opportunity to influence how HemoExchange develops in Ghana from the beginning rather than joining after the model has already been established.
Key responsibilities
The successful partner will be expected to help:
Identify and recruit suitable laboratories to participate in the Ghana pilot.
Build relationships with Medical Laboratory Scientists, Biomedical Scientists, Haematologists and other relevant stakeholders.
Support recruitment and initial assessment of potential HemoExchange expert reviewers.
Validate the peripheral blood film referral and remote morphology workflow in the Ghanaian laboratory environment.
Gather structured feedback from laboratories and reviewers using the platform.
Help identify barriers to adoption, including pricing, image acquisition, turnaround time, trust and clinical governance.
Support development of reviewer competency and quality assurance processes.
Advise on local professional, regulatory and laboratory practice considerations.
Assist with pilot case coordination and operational troubleshooting.
Help define an appropriate Ghana pricing and reviewer remuneration model.
Represent HemoExchange professionally in discussions with potential laboratory partners and relevant professional stakeholders.
Contribute to the strategy for moving from pilot validation to commercial launch in Ghana.
Who we are looking for
Applicants should ideally be one of the following:
Medical Laboratory Scientist or Biomedical Scientist
with significant professional experience in haematology and peripheral blood film morphology.
or
Medically qualified Haematologist with an interest in diagnostic haematology, laboratory medicine, morphology, digital health or telemedicine.
We are particularly interested in people who combine strong clinical or laboratory credibility with an entrepreneurial mindset.
The ideal person will have:
Strong practical knowledge of peripheral blood film morphology.
Experience working within the Ghanaian healthcare or diagnostic laboratory environment.
A good professional network within laboratory medicine or haematology.
An understanding of how difficult morphology cases are currently escalated or referred.
Confidence engaging laboratory managers, scientists, clinicians and professional stakeholders.
Interest in digital health, telehaematology and healthcare innovation.
Good judgement around clinical quality and patient safety.
The ability to work independently and take ownership of a developing project.
A genuine interest in building something that could scale beyond Ghana into other African markets.
Previous startup experience is useful but not required.
What HemoExchange provides
HemoExchange will provide:
Access to the completed or near completed HemoExchange platform.
Founder support throughout the Ghana validation process.
Pilot materials, onboarding workflows and clinical governance framework.
Reviewer and laboratory verification infrastructure.
Structured morphology referral workflows.
Product and technical support.
Support with data collection, pilot evaluation and commercial strategy.
The opportunity to help shape the Ghana operation from its earliest stage.
Equity
The Ghana Validation Partner will be offered 15% equity in the Ghana arm of HemoExchange.
Because this is a substantial founding stake, the equity would be subject to agreed milestones and vesting arrangements linked to meaningful participation in the Ghana validation and launch.
The exact structure would be documented in a formal agreement before commencement.
This role is therefore most suitable for someone who is motivated by ownership and long term value creation, rather than someone seeking only short term consultancy income.
Why Ghana?
HemoExchange is being developed as an Africa first platform, and Ghana will serve as the first real world validation market.
The Ghana pilot will help us answer important questions around:
clinical demand,
laboratory adoption,
reviewer participation,
case pricing,
remote morphology workflow,
quality assurance,
regulatory requirements,
and commercial scalability.
The successful Validation Partner will play a central role in producing that evidence and helping establish the model that may later be expanded into other African countries.
About HemoExchange
HemoExchange.com is a telehaematology referral platform designed to help laboratories access specialist haematology morphology expertise remotely.
Participating laboratories can refer digitised peripheral blood films and supporting clinical information through the platform. Suitable verified experts can then perform specialist morphology review and provide structured expert opinions or second opinions within a governed digital workflow.
Our long term goal is to make specialist haematology expertise more accessible to laboratories regardless of geography.
