Design Partner - Weather-Driven Decision Value
(Energy · Power & Gas Trading · Renewables · Commodity Risk)
Weather forecasts tell you what might happen. Ours tells you what to do - and what it's worth.
Here's the offer, up front: pick one weather-driven decision you face again and again - when to hedge, curtail, protect, or dispatch - and tell us two numbers (rough is fine): what it costs you to act, and what a wrong call costs you. We'll run that decision through our method on your own history at no upfront cost, and show you - in your own numbers - what it would have told you to do and what it would have saved or cost you. If the result clears a bar you're comfortable with, we turn it into a paid pilot. If it doesn't, you owe nothing and you keep the analysis.
What we've built. A method that takes a probabilistic forecast and turns it into a decision: act or don't, given your cost/loss structure, with an estimate of what that decision is worth. We're not chasing forecast accuracy - we're after decision quality under uncertainty: when a forecast should actually change what you do, and when it's just noise. The thesis is sharp. What we need now is someone to prove it - or break it - on real decisions.
Who we're looking for. Someone who has actually made decisions where weather mattered and money was on the line:
Renewables - wind, solar, hydro
Power and energy trading
Gas storage and dispatch
Utility demand and load management
Agricultural commodity risk
You don't need to be a meteorologist. You do need to understand the tradeoff between the cost of acting and the cost of being wrong, and to know the difference between a forecast that genuinely moves a decision and one that's just noise. Ideally you can bring a real, recurring decision - and enough history to test it against.
What this is. Not a formal hire (yet) - a hands-on design partnership. You'd:
Test the method against your real decision scenarios
Tell us where it adds value, and just as importantly where it doesn't
Shape how it fits into an actual workflow
Push back, hard, when something doesn't match reality
Some partners see themselves as a user (applies it to real decisions), some as a design partner (shapes how it works), some as a champion (opens doors to others facing the same problem). Any of those works - or all three.
What you get.
The analysis above at no upfront cost - a concrete read on decisions you already care about, scored in your own numbers
Direct influence over what gets built
Early access to a tool built around decision value, not just forecast skill
Equity and upside participation if this grows into something (structure open for discussion)
Why this is different. Most weather products hand you a probability and leave the decision to you. We translate the forecast into a decision and the value of that decision - and we'll tell you when it's worth acting on and when it isn't.
If this is your world, send me a note describing the kinds of weather-driven decisions you've had to make - especially the ones where calling it wrong actually hurt.
