Research Assistant (Volunteer) - Central Asian Aviation

flycentralasia is an independent aviation intelligence platform covering Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. We combine news, analysis and verified market data for the region, based on information gathered on the ground by a founder working inside the industry in Dushanbe.
About the role
We are looking for a Research Assistant to support our editorial and data work. You will monitor primary sources, verify facts and help turn raw information into reliable briefs. This is an unpaid volunteer position with a clear development path: strong contributors will be first in line for paid roles as the platform grows.
Responsibilities
- Monitor official websites of airlines, airports and regulators in Central Asia, as well as specialist aviation media
- Select relevant news and verify key facts and dates against primary sources
- Compile structured notes and short briefs on airlines, routes, airports and regulatory changes
- Support the preparation of analytical materials with background research and figures
- Flag inconsistencies and unverified claims before publication
Requirements
- Currently studying or working in aviation, international relations, economics, journalism, logistics, tourism or a related field
- Fluent Russian and working English
- Strong attention to detail and a habit of checking every claim against its source
- Ability to commit 10-14 hours per week for at least 3 months
- Interest in the aviation industry of Central Asia
Nice to have
- Experience with Google Sheets or Excel
- Prior experience in research, editing or journalism

Location
Remote. Candidates based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan are preferred, as occasional in-person meetings are possible. Please be available during Dushanbe business hours (UTC+5) for calls.
