About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Octopus Newsroom is looking for a technically strong, customer-facing engineer to support, install and upgrade our newsroom computer system (NRCS) for broadcasters across North America. You will solve problems in Linux, Docker and network environments, and you’ll also be the person our customers like talking to about upgrades, new features and how to get more out of Octopus.
About us
Octopus Newsroom develops a modern newsroom computer system used by broadcasters in more than 60 countries. We are headquartered in Prague, Czechia, EU, with offices in New York and Bangkok, and we support news, sports and live production teams across TV, radio and digital. Our North American customer base is growing fast, and we are growing the US team with it.
What you will do
Provide advanced technical support to TV newsrooms using Octopus, often close to air time.
Troubleshoot using logs, configuration files, APIs and MOS device communication, then fix the issue or pass it to development with clear documentation.
Install new systems and run upgrades, remotely and on site.
Train customers and help them adopt new features.
Talk with customers about upgrades, new modules and integrations, and join pre-sales calls as the technical expert next to our sales manager.
Reproduce issues in test environments and help improve our documentation.
What you need
3+ years in technical support, implementation, systems engineering or solutions engineering, working directly with customers.
Solid Linux server skills: services, CLI, permissions, logs.
Hands-on experience with Docker and virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V or public cloud).
Good networking knowledge: TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs, on-premise and data center setups.
Comfortable reading API requests, logs, XML and JSON.
Experience in broadcast, news or media technology, either at a broadcaster or at a vendor or integrator (NRCS, MAM, graphics, playout, automation, prompter).
Clear communication with both engineers and non-technical users like producers and editors.
Based in the US, close to a major airport, and able to travel several times a year in the US and abroad.
Nice to have (not a must)
Experience with Octopus, Avid iNEWS, AP ENPS, Dalet or another NRCS.
MOS integrations with graphics, playout or prompter systems.
Deploying or upgrading mission-critical systems in live environments.
A mix of newsroom operations and IT experience.
Pre-sales, scoping or technical account management experience.
Spanish.
What to expect
Newsrooms run on deadlines. When a show is about to go live and something is not working, you own the problem until it is solved.
You will work independently most of the time, organize your own workload and make your own decisions, with direct access to our support, development and product teams when you need them.
Most work happens in business hours across US time zones, but sometimes a customer will need you outside them.
What we offer
Long-term, full-time role in a privately owned, profitable company with more than 25 years in broadcast.
Fully remote within the US, with flexible scheduling.
European-style paid time off, plus separate sick time.
Base salary, plus performance bonus.
401(k) with company contribution.
Company contribution to medical, dental and vision coverage.
Regular travel to broadcasters and industry events in the US and abroad, all expenses covered.
Ongoing training on Octopus and related broadcast technologies.
Company laptop, phone and home internet contribution.
