About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team at Jobleap.ai. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining the core backend services and APIs that power our API-driven marketplace products. As a key contributor, you will work on building scalable, secure, and reliable backend systems that support our platform’s growth and ensure a seamless experience for our users. This is a contract-to-hire position, offering the opportunity to transition into a full-time role based on performance and mutual fit.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering high-quality production code independently, owning features end-to-end, and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. You will leverage your expertise in backend development, cloud deployment, and AI tools to accelerate development cycles and enhance system robustness. This role provides a unique chance to work in a fast-paced startup environment where innovation and agility are highly valued.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess over 5 years of professional experience in backend engineering, with a strong emphasis on delivering production-ready systems. Proficiency in Python and modern API frameworks such as FastAPI or equivalent is essential. You should have a solid understanding of RESTful API design, backend architecture, and relational database management, particularly with PostgreSQL, including schema design, performance tuning, and query optimization.
Experience deploying and managing services on AWS, utilizing containers (Docker), and implementing CI/CD pipelines is required. Familiarity with integrating third-party APIs and building fault-tolerant, resilient systems is also necessary. A strong commitment to testing, code quality, and operational best practices is expected. Additionally, candidates should be comfortable working independently, communicating clearly, and leveraging AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or Copilot to enhance productivity and quality.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure backend services and REST APIs that form the backbone of our marketplace platform. Take ownership of features from conception through deployment, testing, and ongoing monitoring in a cloud environment. Optimize our PostgreSQL data layer through schema design, indexing, and query performance tuning to ensure high efficiency and reliability.
Integrate third-party APIs and internal services with a focus on fault tolerance and error handling, ensuring seamless data flow and system robustness. Write comprehensive automated tests to uphold high standards of code quality and reliability. Deploy services using AWS, utilizing containerization (Docker) and implementing CI/CD pipelines for continuous integration and delivery. Monitor system health through logging, metrics, and alerting, and collaborate closely with product managers, frontend developers, and other engineering teams to deliver user-facing features quickly and iteratively.
Utilize AI development tools to streamline coding processes, improve code quality, and accelerate project timelines. Participate in code reviews, contribute to documentation, and stay current with emerging backend technologies and AI advancements to continuously improve our platform’s capabilities.
