The Opportunity
At APA, our purpose is to secure Australia’s energy future. We’re not doing it alone. We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.
We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Development Lead to join our Gas Engineering Solutions team on a permanent full-time basis.
Reporting to the Head of Concept Engineering & Research, you will play a key role in leading the technical development of energy infrastructure opportunities across APA's Northern Territory & Queensland portfolio. Working closely with our Energy Solutions team, you will engage directly with customers as a technical subject matter expert, helping define requirements, develop solution options and evaluate technically and commercially viable pathways for new infrastructure opportunities.
This role combines technical leadership, customer engagement and infrastructure development, with responsibility for supporting opportunities from early-stage concept development through to investment decision support.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the technical development of APA's Northern Territory and Queensland opportunity portfolio, progressing multiple customer-driven, resource development and strategic infrastructure initiatives concurrently.
Partner with Energy Solutions and Business Development teams to engage customers, understand project requirements and provide technical expertise throughout the opportunity development lifecycle.
Develop and evaluate integrated infrastructure concepts involving pipelines, compression, processing facilities, storage and related energy infrastructure solutions.
Lead concept selection, development engineering, techno-economic assessments and prefeasibility studies to identify and mature preferred development pathways.
Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering, operational and external technical resources to progress opportunities through screening, concept development, feasibility and investment decision gates.
Provide trusted technical advice to customers and internal stakeholders, balancing technical, commercial, constructability and operational considerations to deliver practical infrastructure solutions.
Your Background
Significant experience in gas, energy, hydrocarbons, resources or major infrastructure projects, ideally within concept development, project development, engineering advisory or owner's team environments.
Demonstrated experience leading concept development, option assessment, feasibility or prefeasibility studies for complex infrastructure opportunities.
Strong understanding of gas energy infrastructure systems, including gas conditioning, gas transmission & storage, and the ability to develop fit-for-purpose technical solutions that address customer needs and commercial objectives.
Experience undertaking techno-economic assessments, development cost estimation and evaluation of alternative infrastructure solutions.
Proven ability to engage effectively with customers, senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams, translating complex technical concepts into practical development outcomes.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work through ambiguity, challenge assumptions and guide opportunities towards a preferred solution.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of energy infrastructure across Northern Australia and Queensland. You'll work directly with customers, commercial teams and technical specialists to solve complex infrastructure challenges, develop investment-ready solutions and influence opportunities that support APA's long-term growth. If you enjoy working at the front end of project development, combining technical expertise with customer engagement and strategic problem-solving, we'd love to hear from you.
