VP, Product Engineering & AI
FibrX | United States (Remote) | Fractional Leadership
About FibrX
FibrX is building the global nervous system for mission-critical infrastructure.
We're an early-stage, dual-use deep-tech company combining fiber-optic sensing, artificial intelligence, edge computing, and digital twins to detect structural degradation, predict failures, and deliver real-time intelligence across critical systems.
Our technology spans defense, aerospace, hypersonics, energy, and industrial infrastructure. With U.S. Navy and Air Force contracts, licensed Navy technology, and collaborations with leading research institutions and industry partners, we're moving from advanced R&D toward scalable commercial products.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a hands-on VP, Product Engineering & AI to help lead the next stage of FibrX's technical and product development.
You'll work directly with the CEO, CTO, and our engineering and research partners to translate advanced sensing technologies into deployable hardware, software, and AI-powered products.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building, solving hard technical problems, and shaping products from the ground up.
What You'll Do
Lead product engineering strategy and technical roadmaps across hardware, software, and AI.
Guide the development of scalable edge-to-cloud infrastructure, data ingestion, and sensor integration.
Help architect AI/ML capabilities for predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and digital twin applications.
Oversee hardware/software integration, sensor packaging, and product development.
Coordinate technical execution with engineering teams, university researchers, and industry collaborators.
Establish engineering priorities, development milestones, and product requirements.
Help transition research prototypes into reliable, deployable products.
What We're Looking For
Strong technical background in software engineering, AI/ML, computer engineering, applied physics, or related disciplines.
Experience building and shipping complex technical products.
Familiarity with sensors, embedded systems, edge computing, or hardware/software integration.
Experience with Python, cloud architecture, data pipelines, and modern AI/ML development.
Ability to lead technical work while remaining hands-on.
Entrepreneurial mindset, strong ownership, and comfort operating in an early-stage environment.
Bonus experience: Fiber-optic sensing, signal processing, industrial IoT, digital twins, aerospace, defense, robotics, or structural health monitoring.
Compensation & Opportunity
Initial commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week.
Compensation: Approximately $3,000/month, depending on final scope and experience.
Equity: Equity participation available, subject to agreed terms.
Structure: Part-time independent contractor engagement.
Location: Remote, United States.
Growth opportunity: Potential transition into a full-time executive position as the company scales, subject to business needs, funding, and mutual agreement.
Contractor benefits and other engagement terms will be addressed in the written agreement.
Hiring Process
Our anticipated process includes an initial application review, a conversation with the CEO, and a technical discussion with our CTO focused on product architecture, engineering execution, and mutual fit.
Applicant information will be used to evaluate candidates and communicate about the hiring process, subject to applicable privacy requirements. Please do not submit confidential or export-controlled technical materials.
Why FibrX?
We're developing technology designed to change how some of the world's most important physical systems are monitored, maintained, and protected.
You'll have the opportunity to help shape the products, engineering organization, and long-term direction of a growing deep-tech company.
We're looking for someone who wants to build something meaningful and grow with us.
