Role Overview
GlobalGuard is building an emerging AI security and governance platform for organisations adopting modern AI technologies.
We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Principal Engineer / Architect to become one of the technical owners of this product. This is not an architecture-only or management position. You will shape the technical direction, write production code, validate new approaches and take responsibility for turning an evolving product vision into a secure, scalable commercial offering.
As an early engineer on the product, you will have significant influence over its architecture, technology choices, delivery standards and engineering culture.
Key Responsibilities
Take end-to-end technical ownership of the product, from architecture and implementation through deployment and production operation.
Translate product vision and evolving requirements into practical technical plans and working software.
Design and implement secure, reliable and scalable platform services, APIs, integrations and data-processing capabilities.
Write production code and remain actively involved in implementation, review, testing, troubleshooting and operational support.
Build prototypes to validate high-risk assumptions and make evidence-based architecture and technology decisions.
Design security, policy and enforcement capabilities appropriate to an enterprise AI-security platform.
Establish engineering practices for CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automated testing, observability, release management and operational readiness.
Evaluate and integrate appropriate open-source and commercial technologies while protecting product security and maintainability.
Identify and address technical risk, quality issues and delivery blockers, taking responsibility for outcomes.
Work closely with product, security and business stakeholders to balance customer value, delivery speed and technical quality.
Help define and recruit the engineering team that will grow around the product.
Core Technical Focus
Secure, distributed and cloud-native software systems.
Backend services, APIs, integrations and high-volume data-processing systems.
Linux, networking, modern authentication, identity and policy-based access control.
Production engineering, automation, observability, incident response and operational resilience.
Applied AI and agentic architectures, including tool use, retrieval, memory and emerging protocols.
AI-security risks such as prompt injection, sensitive-data exposure, excessive agency and unsafe interactions.
Endpoint, gateway, proxy and telemetry technologies relevant to enterprise security.

Understand and challenge the existing technical direction, then turn the product vision into an executable roadmap.
Establish a secure, scalable platform architecture and effective engineering environment.
De-risk the most important technical assumptions through focused prototypes and working software.
Establish reliable development, testing, deployment and production-operating practices.
Deliver the first integrated commercial product capabilities.
Take clear accountability for technical decisions, delivery outcomes and production quality.
Identify technical gaps, recommend the next engineering hires and become a trusted technical authority for the product.
Experience and Qualifications
Extensive commercial software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
Strong backend or systems programming experience in languages such as Go, Rust, C/C++, Java or C#, supported by strong Python skills and familiarity with modern TypeScript/JavaScript ecosystems.
Experience designing distributed and cloud-native systems, secure APIs and scalable data-processing services.
Strong understanding of Linux, networking, HTTP, HTTPS, TLS, DNS, proxies and modern authentication protocols.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform.
Strong experience with CI/CD, production operations, observability, logging, metrics, tracing and incident response.
Practical experience building applications with modern large language models or agentic AI architectures.
Strong understanding of AI-security risks, application and cloud security, identity systems and policy-based access controls.
Ability to investigate unfamiliar technologies independently, rapidly turn research into prototypes and make sound architecture decisions when requirements are incomplete or changing.
