Software Engineer

Apex Data Labs provides the data that AI models learn from. We collect, label and check text, audio, image and video data for teams building generative AI, computer vision, speech and agentic AI products. Our work covers data collection, annotation, model evaluation, transcription, RLHF and red-teaming.
About the role
We are looking for a software engineer to build the tools and pipelines behind our data work. You will build the platform our annotators use every day, the systems that check data quality, and the pipelines that deliver datasets to our customers. You will work closely with our project, quality and customer teams, and see your work used straight away.
What you will do
• Build and improve our annotation and review tools for text, audio, image and video data
• Build data pipelines that take in, process, check and deliver large datasets
• Build automated quality checks, such as agreement scoring, gold-standard tests and error reports
• Add AI models into our workflows, for example pre-labeling, so people can work faster
• Build tools for LLM projects, such as response ranking, prompt evaluation and red-teaming
• Keep customer data safe by following our security and privacy rules in everything you build
• Write clear, tested code and review your teammates' code
• Work with project managers and customers to understand what they need and turn it into working software
What we are looking for
• 2+ years of experience building software in a professional team
• Strong skills in Python, and in JavaScript or TypeScript
• Experience building web applications, both backend (APIs, databases) and frontend (React or similar)
• Good knowledge of SQL and working with data at scale
• Experience with a cloud platform such as AWS, Google Cloud or Azure
• Care for code quality, testing and clear documentation
• Clear written and spoken English
• Able to work on your own, ask good questions and finish what you start
Nice to have
• Experience with data annotation tools or machine learning data pipelines
• Experience working with LLM APIs or evaluating AI models
• Experience with audio, image or video processing
• Knowledge of security standards such as ISO 27001, SOC 2 or GDPR
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD and workflow tools such as Airflow
