About the Role
CITiLIGHT is seeking a IoT QA Engineer to ensure that our smart lighting hardware and software work together reliably in real-world deployments. In this role, you will be responsible for testing IoT devices end-to-end through our software platform, verifying device commands and data, investigating issues, and supporting the continuous improvement of product quality.
The ideal candidate brings a logical and structured approach to problem-solving, strong attention to detail, and an eagerness to learn across IoT, hardware, networking, and software. This role is hands-on and requires close collaboration with firmware, hardware, and software teams to identify, reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across the full stack.
About CITiLIGHT
CITiLIGHT is reshaping how smart infrastructure works globally. We operate at the intersection of smart cities, sustainability, and innovation, helping city administrators and private stakeholders deploy cutting-edge IoT-led solutions at scale.
As we expand our platform capabilities, we are looking for passionate and skilled engineers to help us build robust, user-friendly, and scalable applications that drive real-world impact.
Key Responsibilities
Test IoT devices including NEMA, Zhaga, pole-mount controllers, CCMS, and related systems end-to-end through the software platform.
Verify that commands such as switching, dimming, and scheduling reach devices correctly.
Validate that device data including status, energy, alarms, and other telemetry is accurately reflected on the platform dashboard.
Write and execute test cases for new features, software releases, and firmware updates.
Find, reproduce, and clearly document bugs using steps to reproduce, logs, screenshots, and other relevant evidence.
Perform functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing across hardware, firmware, backend, and frontend components.
Work closely with firmware, hardware, and software teams to investigate and troubleshoot issues across the full technology stack.
Fix small bugs and UI issues in the React / Next.js frontend and Node.js backend where appropriate.
Use APIs, logs, device data, and debugging tools to identify the likely source of issues.
Support the improvement of testing processes, test coverage, documentation, and overall product quality as the platform grows.
Key Responsibilities
Basic to good knowledge of JavaScript, React / Next.js, and Node.js.
Strong logical and structured problem-solving ability, with an interest in understanding why an issue occurred rather than only identifying that it occurred.
Ability to write, execute, and document clear and repeatable test cases.
Strong attention to detail and clear written communication.
Eagerness to learn IoT, hardware, networking, software platforms, and related technologies as required by the problem.
Hands-on attitude and comfort working with physical IoT devices and equipment in a lab environment.
Ability to investigate issues using logs, screenshots, APIs, device data, and basic debugging tools.
Basic understanding of REST APIs, MQTT, or IoT device communication.
Exposure to Git/version control in a collaborative development environment.
Ability to work closely with hardware, firmware, backend, frontend, and QA stakeholders.
Willingness to work onsite at the CITiLIGHT office in Delhi.
Soft Skills (Critical for Success)
Ownership mindset: Takes responsibility for assigned testing and issue-resolution activities.
Team collaboration: Works seamlessly with hardware, firmware, software, and QA teams.
Clear communicator: Documents issues clearly and communicates technical findings effectively.
Problem solver: Approaches failures systematically and investigates root causes.
Eager to learn: Open to feedback, continuous improvement, and learning new technologies.
Adaptable & hands-on: Comfortable switching between software, hardware, testing, and troubleshooting tasks.
Soft Skills (Critical for Success)
Experience with manual or automated testing tools such as Postman, Jest, Cypress, Playwright, or similar.
Familiarity with REST APIs, MQTT, or IoT devices.
Exposure to Git and basic debugging tools.
Interest in smart cities, embedded systems, IoT, or hardware.
