About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Are you a student eager to apply your theoretical knowledge and fresh perspectives to real-world challenges? At Saab, we believe that innovation thrives on new ideas, and your master thesis project could be the spark that ignites our next technological breakthrough.
Your role
We recognize the immense value that students bring to our company. Your academic rigor, combined with your enthusiasm for cutting-edge technology, allows you to approach problems with a unique and insightful lens. At Saab, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with experienced engineers and specialists, gaining invaluable practical experience while making a tangible contribution to our growth and development.
Background
Gripen is an advanced, software-defined fighter aircraft that continues to evolve through changes and new capabilities. Overall Design is a unit within the Gripen organisation that provides technical leadership for changes affecting multiple parts of the system.
The thesis projects will use engineering change cases — examples of changes to functional chains, logical interfaces or information flows in the existing system. You will focus on systems modelling from an engineering and product perspective. In this master thesis project, you will cooperate with another student who focuses on exploring IT Architectures for a Modern Systems Modelling Tool. The projects address different questions but share selected engineering change cases and opportunities for collaboration.
Description of the Thesis Project
This thesis focuses on systems modelling from an engineering and product perspective. Using representative system-model information prepared for the thesis, you will investigate how functional and logical systems modelling can support the analysis of engineering changes.
The work may include changes to:
• functional chains;
• logical interfaces; and
• sequences of information flows between subsystems and other system elements.
You will compare ways of representing and using the information required for the selected change cases. This includes examining how different model views relate to each other, what information engineers need to understand the effects of a change, and how the information could support change-impact analysis.
The expected result is an analysis and comparison of modelling approaches, model views and engineering workflows, together with identified needs for tool support. Aerodynamics and flight mechanics are not the primary focus.
A complete prototype is not required. If time permits, a small number of selected change cases may be demonstrated using the representative system-model information.
Your profile
We believe that you are approaching the end of a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Product Development, Aeronautical Engineering or a related field, and are about to begin a 30 hp thesis project. You have an interest in systems engineering, systems modelling, model-based engineering or simulation is beneficial. Previous aerospace or industrial experience is not required.
Saab will provide an introduction, initial engineering change cases, representative system-model information and supporting material, access to specialists and regular supervision
We provide the support and guidance you need to translate your theoretical knowledge into practical solutions. Join us and become a driving force behind Saab's technological advancements!
This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
Kindly observe that this is an ongoing recruitment process and that the position might be filled before the closing date of the advertisement.
