Builders.mu is the build team at Masters’ Union. We design and build robots, experimental machines, interactive contraptions and ambitious engineering projects, then turn those builds into content for Instagram and YouTube.
We’re looking for a hands-on engineering leader who can take unconventional ideas from concept to working prototype, lead a multidisciplinary team, and help us build things people wouldn’t expect to see in the real world.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team across mechanical design, electronics, embedded systems, software and fabrication.
* Conceptualise and pitch ambitious builds, evaluate feasibility, and develop practical execution plans.
* Personally contribute to prototyping, CAD, circuit design, firmware, debugging and fabrication.
* Oversee projects from initial concept and component sourcing through assembly, testing and final demonstration.
* Work closely with the creative, production and video teams to ensure builds are reliable, visually compelling and ready to be filmed.
* Anticipate technical risks, troubleshoot failures and develop backup solutions under tight production deadlines.
* Manage workshop operations, including tools, equipment, inventory, safety protocols and fabrication facilities.
* Establish engineering workflows, project timelines, design reviews and quality standards.
What We’re Looking For
* Strong hands-on experience building real-world projects involving a combination of mechanical systems, electronics and software.
* Practical knowledge of microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, embedded programming, CAD and rapid prototyping.
* Ability to independently take an idea from concept and design to a functional prototype.
* Experience leading engineers, managing technical projects or mentoring a build team. Relevant experience in robotics clubs, Formula Student, maker communities or personal engineering projects is welcome.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work across disciplines rather than staying confined to one specialisation.
* A portfolio of projects demonstrating technical depth, creativity and execution.
Good to Have
* Experience with welding, machining, 3D printing and other fabrication techniques.
* Familiarity with robotics frameworks such as ROS.
* Experience with computer vision, automation, control systems or AI-powered hardware.
* Comfort explaining technical concepts or demonstrating builds on camera.
* An interest in experimental engineering and creators such as Mark Rober and Michael Reeves.
