Senior Business Analyst – Payments
Location: | Open to any location | Occasional UAE travel
About The Role
We build compliance payment products used by banks and financial institutions across the UAE and GCC to process domestic, cross-border, instant, and WPS payments.
As a Senior Business Analyst, you will own the functional analysis from requirement through release. You'll work closely with bank stakeholders, sales, Key account Managers, architects, engineers, QA, and delivery teams.
You will be expected to understand the business problem behind each requirement, challenge unclear or impractical requests, define how the solution should behave, and stay involved through testing and release.
What You'll Own
Functional analysis of payment capabilities. This covers business rules, validations, exceptions, failures, returns, reconciliation, and downstream impact.
Requirement workshops with bank business, operations, and technology stakeholders. You'll convert ambiguous business needs into clear, complete, and testable requirements.
Functional specifications that engineering teams can build from. These include user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, API requirements, data mapping, and business rules.
Feasibility, gap, scope, dependency, and impact analysis for new requirements and change requests.
Requirement traceability from business need through development, testing, UAT, and release.
Testing support. You'll support SIT and UAT, clarify expected behaviour during defect triage, and validate delivered functionality against agreed requirements.
Must-Haves
5+ years as a Business Analyst, including at least 3 years on payments products or payment projects in banking or financial services preferably in UAE or any other GCCs.
Experience analysing at least one end-to-end payment flow, including transaction processing, failures, returns, and reconciliation.
Good understanding of REST APIs, including authentication, request and response structures, validations, error handling, and data mapping.
Working knowledge of ISO 20022 message concepts and structures, such as pacs, pain, and camt.
Experience conducting requirement workshops directly with bank or business stakeholders.
Ability to write basic SQL queries for data validation and defect investigation.
Good to Have
Experience with UAE payment schemes, such as UAEFTS, WPS, and Aani.
Experience with payment hubs, orchestration, instant payments, open banking, clearing and settlement, or transaction monitoring.
Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar tools.
Experience across Agile and Waterfall delivery environments.
How You'll Work With AI
We encourage analysts to use AI where it improves speed, analysis, and quality, and we'll support you in learning the tools. All use must follow company and client data-security policies.
Typical Use Cases Include
Diagrams as code: creating process flows, sequence diagrams, and system workflows using tools such as Mermaid, so diagrams stay close to requirements and are easy to update.
Early validation: building wireframes, clickable prototypes, or proofs of concept to test requirements with stakeholders before development starts.
Automation: using small scripts to generate test data, validate payment messages, or run reconciliation checks.
Requirement quality: using AI to surface ambiguity, missing scenarios, and edge cases. The analyst remains responsible for validating the result.
What Success Looks Like
Within 3 months: you can explain the end-to-end flow of your payment capability, including its integrations, key rules, exceptions, dependencies, and limitations.
Within 6 months: you are the primary functional point of contact for that capability across engineering, QA, delivery, and business stakeholders.
