Yellow Card Zimbabwe will operate as a virtual asset service provider (VASP) within the regulatory perimeter overseen by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe and other relevant authorities. The entity is expected to process high transaction volumes and requires a locally based AML Compliance Officer to meet Zimbabwean regulatory requirements.
About the Role
We are looking for an AML Compliance Officer to serve as the local AML compliance lead and money laundering reporting officer for Yellow Card Zimbabwe. Reporting directly to the Group AMLCO & MLRO, who is based in Johannesburg, you will be the in-country subject matter expert on Zimbabwean AML law and supervisory expectations, build strong relationships with the FIU, other regulators, and banking and payment partners, and provide day-to-day compliance support in a high-volume operational environment. This role is ideal for an ambitious early-career AML professional with payments and crypto experience who thrives under pressure and wants to help build a regulated VASP from the ground up.
What You’ll Do
Zimbabwean AML Framework and Advisory
Serve as the in-house specialist on Zimbabwean AML law, including the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act [Chapter 9:24], the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime (Virtual Asset Service Providers Registration) Regulations, 2026 (S.I. 99 of 2026), and related FIU directives, guidance, and sanctions and counter-terrorist financing requirements.
Provide guidance and support to the Group MLRO on Zimbabwean AML obligations, FATF and ESAAMLG expectations, and the practical application of local requirements to a VASP business model.
Translate local regulatory developments into clear, actionable advice for product, operations, customer-facing, and leadership teams.
Regulator and Partner Engagement
Build and maintain meaningful, trust-based relationships with the FIU, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe, banking and payment partners, and other key external stakeholders.
Act as the entity's resident compliance contact for registration, renewal, reporting, inspections, and information requests, ensuring responses are timely, accurate, and well evidenced.
Represent the Zimbabwean entity in routine regulator and partner interactions, in close coordination with the Group MLRO and external counsel where required.
AML Program Implementation
Support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the entity's AML program, including policies, procedures, the institutional AML risk assessment, and the customer risk-rating methodology.
Ensure program controls reflect Zimbabwean requirements on customer due diligence, beneficial ownership, record keeping, ongoing monitoring, and internal reporting.
Maintain robust documentation that meets the evidentiary standards of the FIU, other regulators, banking partners, and internal and external auditors.
High-Volume Transaction Monitoring and Investigations
Review and dispose of large volumes of transaction monitoring alerts in a fast-paced environment, escalating unusual or suspicious activity in line with internal procedures and regulatory expectations.
Conduct enhanced due diligence on higher-risk customers, counterparties, and transactions involving fiat and digital assets, including on-chain analytics, source of funds, and source of wealth assessments.
Prepare and support the filing of suspicious transaction reports to the FIU in line with local requirements, in close coordination with the Group MLRO.
KYC, Sanctions, and Travel Rule
Support customer onboarding and periodic reviews to ensure compliance with Zimbabwean KYB, beneficial ownership, and PEP requirements.
Operate sanctions and PEP screening against UN, OFAC, EU, and local lists, and resolve potential matches with appropriate documentation.
Implement and operate Travel Rule processes for virtual asset transfers, including counterparty VASP due diligence and information-sharing workflows.
Training, Culture, and Internal Stakeholders
Deliver AML, sanctions, and crypto-specific risk training tailored to Zimbabwean requirements for local staff and relevant group functions.
Promote a strong compliance culture and act as a trusted point of contact for colleagues seeking AML guidance.
Contribute to policy updates and process improvements that keep the team aligned with current local expectations.
Reporting and Governance
Support the Group MLRO in preparing materials for the FIU, other regulators, internal and external audit, the Board, and relevant committees.
Track regulatory and supervisory developments in Zimbabwe, the ESAAMLG region, and the wider digital asset space, and help assess the impact on the business.
Maintain accurate management information and metrics that evidence the effectiveness of the Zimbabwean AML program.
What We Are Looking For

One to three years of hands-on AML, financial crime, or compliance experience at a bank, financial institution, payment provider, remittance company or fintech regulated in Zimbabwe or a comparable jurisdiction.

Direct experience working with crypto or digital assets, with a clear understanding of VASP-specific risks, blockchain analytics, wallet screening, and Travel Rule implementation.
