About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Machine Learning Engineer 5 (Individual Contributor) to join our dynamic team at Capital One. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving major AI transformations and scaling production models across the organization. Your expertise will enable us to develop innovative solutions that address complex business challenges, enhance operational efficiency, and improve customer experiences. As part of a collaborative and fast-paced environment, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including data scientists, data engineers, and product managers to design, build, and deploy scalable machine learning models and platforms. Your contributions will directly impact the company's ability to leverage artificial intelligence responsibly and effectively, ensuring models are well-governed, explainable, and aligned with best practices in responsible AI.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background and extensive experience in machine learning and software engineering. A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering is required. Candidates should have at least 6 years of programming experience in languages like Python, Java, Golang, or C++, and a proven track record of deploying machine learning models using industry-standard frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow. Experience with large-scale distributed systems like Spark or Ray is essential, along with proficiency in operating cloud-based platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and managing containerized applications via Kubernetes. Preferred qualifications include advanced degrees, extensive experience in optimizing ML algorithms, building resilient production systems, and contributing to industry research or open-source projects.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and components that solve real-world business problems in collaboration with data science and product teams.
Build and scale multi-tenant platforms capable of supporting large-scale ML training and serving at enterprise levels.
Make informed decisions regarding ML infrastructure, including model selection, data and feature engineering, hyperparameter tuning, and validation techniques.
Write, test, and maintain application code to automate ML workflows, model training, and deployment processes.
Collaborate within agile teams to create innovative software solutions that enable advanced big data and ML applications.
Monitor, retrain, and maintain models in production environments to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
Leverage cloud architectures and technologies to deliver scalable ML solutions, including constructing robust data pipelines.
Implement CI/CD practices, including automated testing, monitoring, and model governance to ensure secure and compliant deployment.
Ensure all code adheres to security standards, reduces vulnerabilities, and aligns with responsible AI principles, including explainability and fairness.
Utilize programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java to develop scalable and efficient ML solutions.
